Hi, folks. Start another forum? I think even trying to save the VOS was incredibly foolish; however, I truly thought ccat had given it up.

It was not foolish. I actually liked going to that one.
Would any body come to a new one? There are a lot of good people here. I think a group effort could pull it off. The forum site says its easy to do. Anybody want to try?

Anybody want to try????
1. OB is currently setting up a forum for his family. If you wanted to wait until he had time, he has the expertise to do it.

2. If you wanted to start looking into formats, there seem to be two software sights that are fairly popular (that's not to say there are not others--another reason not to jump into anything). FreeForums.org offers one template, and Forumotion.com offers four templates, with different options. That sight states that once one is set up, the admin can change to one of the other three, but I have no idea if any info would be lost in some cases.

3. I will say this, Forumotion calls the one who starts a forum a "founder." I had questioned whether a founder could totally delete a forum once the admin duties had been handed over. Now we know the answer to that little question.

4. If being a founder is so very important, you need to choose carefully whom you put in that position. I'm about to get hit with a wet noodle here, but if I were to choose, I would pick Joy. She's honest and she's going to be fair.

5. If possible, the founder's info could be shared with others--that would require setting up a special e-mail account that the admins would all have access to--that would mean, I guess, that any of the three could bring down the forum if they so desired. Not sure.

6. The advantage to having three admins would be voting on issues. There would never be just one person who had to decide for all the others or there would never be a 1-1 tie.

7. After all this, please count me out as an admin. or mod., but if you set up the forum and a category is slow, let me know and I'll be happy to help pick up the posting.

So, guys, good luck.
I do know who ceiling cat is/was.He sent me an email asking me to reconsider coming back when I left there many months ago. Somehow, when he sent me the email, his name showed up in the line where the email address was.

That was the reason that I was able to find out who ceiling cat was. Yes, cc was/is a Male, and I am like everybody else, I believe kitteh is/was a female, and I'm almost 100% sure I know who that person is also.

I have not been on any forums in the past several months, due to some personal, health, private, and family problems. I got on just now to look up a post about someone that I was told was on here.

Nice to see all of you again.

Eeker Ahhh, but I don't know how to do anything, FV. I'd have to be walked through everything. I would not want sole responsibility or authority to do squat. It would have to be a joint effort with joint decisions with other admins.

Also, whoever takes the reins, PLEASE agree on rules and have consequences for breaking them firmly in place - first, second, third offense breakdown - to avoid any hard feelings. If we know what to expect ahead of time, there's no reason to fuss.

I love OriginalBama...yay! You're the man! Smiler
Thanks for the vote of confidence FV and dont love me just yet Joy. A few things would have to happen before I would attempt this. One person couldnt do this alone. Two others would have to be admin. Why two? Because if something came up that needed to be decided, there couldnt be a tie vote. That is only fair. And the two others, at least one would have to know bb codes and html. Because this is needed for adding some things to chat such as Youtube and extra smilies. And these are my weaknesses. So the other two would have to be willing to work with me and each other. At the SF, we were just lucky that all the admin "jelled". No power trips allowed. Also, freeforums would be my choice because Ive looked at both and for the reason FV stated above. A founder could get POed and just close it down, as we have seen. If we get one with bb code and html skills, then a third admin could be added later. But those skills are a must right now. So, see, I'm not all that great. As I said at the vos, i am setting one up for my family members since we are so scattered. Kind of like a family reunion, online. It is still in the setup mode right now. But if I do get someone interested with those skills listed above, it could happen.
So whoever set up VOS had to know html and bb code. I know a little html from eBay, but I have no idea what bb code is...

So far we have you and Joy, so now we need someone more technical. Since even if you're on FreeForums and no one person can pull the plug, if I understand you correctly, you still need someone you can trust for the coding. I think that would be paramount.

How about TSC? Or if you don't get her, is there anyone else?

There's the old saw about the difference between honest and trustworthy, so if every admin was known to the forum, then there shouldn't be too much chance of someone committing some sabotage.

Anyone out there?

You only need to know html if you want to add fancy features not offered by the forum host. 99% of it is clicking buttons and "trial and error".

CC,
First, I give you credit for showing up.
Second, you played a very childish game.
Third, you should have let people send you messages.
For LMM:

1. Add everyone you want on the group PM to your Buddies List.
2. After arriving at your private messages page, Click "New Private Message"
3. Click a name in the My Contacts box & then click the "add>>" box in middle of screen. Continue until everyone is in the Invited Members box.
4. Click "Invite Members"
5. Write & send.
6. You can click on "?? participants" at top of post to see names of those you chose.

HEY, you know what? If I can navigate this place, surely I can help run a forum. By golly, let's do it. Big Grin
Well, I guess I got on here late and missed all the fun. The VOS was great and I enjoyed it so much. I enjoyed working to help bring it back. I would like to put my hat in the ring for at least a helper. The admins seem to be taken (all great people!).

I believe VOS was run by Forumotion. They seem to have a great format.

That might be true if it is forumotion but at this point i dont think you have a dog in this race. Your credibility dont hold water and unlike LMM i cant give you credit for anything unless it might be playing people for fools.
