For 49 years, the Democrats have governed Detroit. They've overseen the absolute ruin of one of the US's once mighty cities. See the slideshow for the results:

To be fair, the Democrats share about a third of the blame. The UAW shares another third. Their over reaching demands drove the auto companies to their knees and to bankruptcy in at least three cases (Chrysler, GM, and Jeep-American). The auto companies management share the third share. Their boneheaded decisions in producing below standard products, which Americans wouldn't buy, and cravenly caving in to UAW demand were the final piece of the puzzle.

I visit the Detroit Arsenal regularly, and driving thru Detroit brings to mind the last days of Tyre and Nineveh as they fell in to ruin.

Democratic -- a combination of three words. Demos -- archaic Greek for citizens, or people. Cra(p) -- self explanatory. And, Tic(k) -- a parasite which gorges itself on the blood of its host, leaving a debilitating disease behind.

"DETROIT—The population of Detroit has fallen back 100 years.

The flight of middle-class African-Americans to the suburbs fueled an exodus that cut Detroit's population 25% in the past decade to 713,777, according to Census Bureau data released Tuesday. That's the city's lowest population level since the 1910 census, when automobile mass production was making Detroit Detroit.

The decline, the fastest in city history, shocked local officials, who had expected a number closer to 800,000. Mayor Dave Bing said the city would seek a recount.

"If we could go out and identify another 40,000 people that were missed, and it brings us over the threshold of 750,000, that would make a difference from what we can get from the federal and state government," Mr. Bing said at a news conference Tuesday."

Urban decline is ongoing in cities ruled by Democrats and their tax and spend ways. Lefties used to say NYC was ungovernable. Then, Giuliani brought the murder rate down from over 2,500 annually to under 500; cut taxes; and made the place business friendly, again. Bloomberg's big contribution was not messing with success.
