The scam is perpetuated by both Republicans and Democrats...with the help of the media.

Question...was the government really too small just 8 years ago to do it's job?

Another question...Some here have suggested returning to the Clinton policies, namely the tax rate...how about returning to the Clinton Budget?  Was government too small under Clinton?

Federal revenues were about $2.1T in FY2010.  We're on pace for the same in FY2011.  So assuming the government collects the same in FY2012, Congress just needs to adopt the 2003 budget.

That's it.  That's all it would take to balance the budget.  If we adopted Clinton's budget, the government would have an even bigger "surplus" than what Clinton had.

Yet proposals by both democrats and republicans it would take anywhere between 10 to 30 years to balance the budget...provided that future congress would respect the budgets...something they are not legally required to do.  Our current congress, short of an amendment, has no say on what congress in 2019 will do.

Was the federal government really too small just 8 years ago?

Grownups are working on the problem.

Your posts are becoming as about as useful as Jimi's...

Who are these grownups?  Whoever they are, they are not in Washington.

Spending does not have to go up every year, laws can be changed.  You know, like when they agree to budgets...

The point of the post was not to suggest that these bozos would actually adopt the 2003 budget, but point out the silliness of "we have to spend $3.6T or people would starve and babies would die" mentality.

The question stands...Was the federal government really too small just 8 years ago?

Your posts have always been pretty useless.  Living in the past, and romanticizing it,  seems to be a common trait in the RepubTEACon crowd.

Tell us, exactly what are you going to cut to achieve the 40% budget cut? Just rough numbers, like cutting Medicaid what percent % ???  Keep in mind that poor staes like AlObama count on Medicaid funds for most of the care to the elderly, handicapped, etc, so every dollar you take from AlObama, will most likely hurt someone.  Physically.  Emotionally.  Maybe both.

I'm 100% sure you have given it zero thought and are just repeating something you heard on Fox News.

Lets really go back to the past and reinstate the tax rates of the 1960's, when Americas middle class lived well, budget deficits were almost zero, and the US economy was exploding more than any other time in our short history.

First, I totally agree that we should return to the Clinton era tax rates as well as the Clinton era budget - especially the military budget. Bush almost tripled the military budget which now is the largest single portion if you include veterans health care for those wounded in Bush's "wars" .

Next, there should be a clean bill right now to raise the debt ceiling like so many times before - no deal, not big deal, just a clean and simple one line on one page authorization to raise the debt ceiling. This whole "debt crisis" is a product of the teabaggers, many of whom are actually ignorant enough to want to shut down the country and cause a default.  The time for budget negotiations is at budget time, and is a completely different thing alltogether than the current issue of the debt ceiling which is authorization to pay what has already been spent.

If the teabaggers get their way, and the country goes into default, the misery that could follow will not be lost on the stupid people who voted to put this bunch in , and the Republican party who allowed itself to be held hostage by them.

First of all you calling me a "RepubTEACon" shows how little you actually pay attention to anything other than the blathering that must be going through your head 24/7...

I don't have a partisan axe to grind...bozos are bozos...Republican and Democrat alike.

It is really sad that "we the people" has sunk so low that they can't even imagine a life without our wise over lords in Washington taking care of us...truly, sad.

By the way...discretionary spending is 37% of the budget...without touching SS, Medicaid, or Military spending.

You may not have a partisan axe to grind, but you do have a limited knowledge about n]most of what you comment on. BTW, you need to change your avatar. You are embarrassing Thomas Jefferson.
