It's sobering to think that even a small conflict could escalate given the right participants.  While there is no doubt that the size and strength of these weapons have grown exponentially we an only hope that technology and counter weapons exist such that if there was ever such weapons released upon our nation that we could counter them or intercept them and destroy them before they could go off.  Otherwise we have to rely upon calmer heads to prevail.

Here is an interesting site to determine just how much damage could be done if such weapons were released.  If the largest Russian weapon was dropped on the center of Huntsville then the fireball and 3rd degree burn injuries would extend all the way to Rogersville.  That is scary.  To think that our whole world and life could be altered in a second or within any 30 minute period.  In any 30 minute period we all could be back to the stone age and very ill prepared to survive given what would be left.

If you choose to try it then under #2 Yield, just choose a preset from the dropdown menu and let the other defaults be what they are but we all know that no nation would just send or drop one.

I have no doubts that Islamic extremist terrorist would just love to sneak a mass destruction weapon into one or more of our cities and discharge it in the ultimate suicide weapon and sadly given Iran and North Korea's willingness to probably sell or give one of these weapons into the terror network and our open borders we might sadly see such a scenario.

What I was referring more to in the first post was the more and greater likelihood that the three major players or those nations known to possess nuclear weapons might trigger something off that would escalate quite fast.  Scenarios such as North Korea deciding that they had a right to fire one off toward the US or a US base or say Japan or South Korea or action in Syria bringing into direct conflict between the US and Russia and along the line someone thinking that a limited field nuke could be used and escalation from there.

Trouble is that more and more today with technology and upgraded militaries along with a certain type of leader either crazy or drunk with power there might be the thought that there could be limited use of nukes or the ability to defend oneself against retaliation and the actual feeling that one could survive a first strike and neutralize the capability of a second one or prevent a retaliatory strike all together.   Any of the above or thoughts of such could lead someone to think it's possible to use such massive weapons.

Last India and Pakistan have both threatened to destroy the other over that small section of land around Cashmere ( I believe that's right ) but both of these Nuclear equipped nations have expressed the desire to eliminate the other with one quick first strike and my point is anyone that dares to use such today is insane beyond the point of reason.  Mutually assured destruction once was our only insurance policy but with more technologically improved countermeasures and defensive weapons that possibly can intercept incoming ICBMs there may be the mistaken thought that Nuclear war is possible and winnable.

I pray the day never comes.

It's spelled Kashmir.  The anti-missile tech is better, but not perfect by any means. We have enough deployed to stop 3 or 4 ICBMs, at the most.
