How anybody tried The Trojan House? Whats on the menu and how is it?

(Been thinking of taking my wife out on the town, but she said we can't go to Kristal's this time...hehehe Big Grin) I may have to come off the pocket book for Micky Ds)

Seriously, would like to know if anybody has been. For those that hasn't seen it, it is on Avalon next to the Wonder Bread Store.

It is located east of the old Back Yard Burger Building and just west of the Wonder Bread discount store but on the same side of the road as both of the above.

I didn't eat there so I can't comment on the quality. The eatery is a combination coffee shop / Sandwich shop. Given that it was Friday it could be that people eat out a lot but their parking lot was packed and lots of people in the restaurant. They also had a young guy playing live music / guitar in what reminded me of a 60's Coffee type house but without the atmosphere of the 60s. The inside looked very good and I hope one day to try their subs but I'm wondering if they will do very good with Lenny's, Quiznos and Sweet Peppers down the street.

Looks to me like a locally, family owned coffee house that serves subs.
TPLAW2...
I agree... I have been by their untold times and would have never fiqured out it was a restaurant if the blog had not pointed it out....I thought they were some clothing store selling sportswear or something...
I went in and inside is simliar to the decor of Mugs.Com.
They have a large list of different types of salads/subs with a long list of coffees...
I would say it is cross between a Coffee House and Sandwich Shoppe with the owner probably still confused about what he really wanted while he was working on it...
Have not had a chance to eat there yet so the quality and skill of the cook can not be attested to at this time...
The owner was not thinking clearly when he was putting up a sign for his/her place..
A couple of us girls from work ate at the Trojan House for lunch yesterday. It was good, I got the chicken salad sandwich, the others got salads of some sort, it was good food and good atmosphere. The guy (I think the owner) said that the recipe for their Chicken Salad is the "original recipe" from the "original trojan house from 45 years ago". I wasn't in this area 45 years ago so it really had no significance to me. Maybe that's why he didn't put on his signs that it is a restaurant, he thinks everyone remembers the original "Trojan House".
Me and my son ate there for lunch today. I had the reuben, and he had the club. My sandwich was very good, and the service was friendly, although you could tell they were still learning the process which is typical for a new business. The owner made it a point to visit every table, and to make sure everyone was happy. I didn't try the coffee, but I'm sure it is good as well. For the 2 of us to eat a sandwich w/ a side, chips, and a drink, was around $15.00 total. Not too bad at all. I give it a big thumbs up. My recomendation for the owner would be to put up a sign that he has parking in the rear as I almost didn't stop because of a perceived lack of parking. On a further note, Dillon Hodges is playing there this Saturday night. I asked the owner, and he is trying to have local talent there each weekend.

Why would you not want to carry
her to a nice restaurant for a
romantic dinner? Wink

I was just joking about Kristal's, Katybug.

I am glad people are liking it, all that had to be mention was the Rueben and you will have to burn the place down to keep me from trying it now.
Just got back from there. Everything was good and will go back. Everything brand new and clean. Had a Reuben on toasted rye, lots of tender fresh meat. All the sandwiches come with a side of different chips of your choice, potato salad or pasta salad and a pickle spear. A little something over 5 dollars. My wife had the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant, it was huge! Went ahead and got the nachos too, it was freaking huge. The nachos were smothered in chili, cheese, jalapenos, black olives, sour cream and tomatos. All that, 1 fountain drink and water for less than 20 bucks. We couldn't eat it all and brought home most of the nachos.
I was working in the Muscle Shoals area today and elected to meet my wife at the Trojan House for lunch. This was our first visit to this establishment. The food selection was good, she had the chicken salad, chips and soda while I elected a turkey/ham sandwich on Cuban bread, pasta salad and soda for just over $ 12.00 tax included.

The overall experience was great. The staff was both friendly and information as this was our first visit. The restaurant clean and atmosphere good, cozy enough for some quality private time away from the rest of the family, yet adaptable enough for an office lunch-on or similar business lunch. I even saw a sign offering free Wi-Fi.

We arrived just prior to 11 am and the place began to fill rapidly before we left. I would suggest calling ahead for groups of 8 or more. The overall experience receives double thumbs up from me and I will definitely be back.
A friend of mine told me that they are going to have live (local) bands there on certain nights, and maybe even some Karaoke other nights.

I haven't been there, but I got a feeling I am going to have to try it.

I am one of the OLD OLD Trojan House customers. Owned by the Cameron's, & I went to school with almost all the kids that worked there. GREAT PLACE back then. Curious to see how it is now.
