Joy and DeepFat are pleased to announce the August TD Forum Writing Competition.

Like the last one, it will feature two competitions, poetry and prose. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to submit entries. You may enter both contests, but only one entry in each, please.

Prose entries will be limited to 800 words. Spelling, punctuation, and grammar count. Poetry entries will be limited to 800 words. Remember those are maximum counts. A good entry of 400 words will do better than a poorer entry of 799. Your judges remind you that 800 words of poetry had better be pretty compelling.

Entries must be completely anonymous. It it up to the contestant to ensure anonymity. We suggest you send your entry from an email account that does not mention or suggest your name, and it certainly must not mention or refer to your TD Forum screen name. If you include your name or TD Forum handle or any other identification other than the security code, below, your entry must be disqualified. We do NOT want to know who you are until after the contest.

Attach to your email a security code, like this: “Security code: X4N8E8”

We will not publish the security code. This way, there will be no monkey business regarding authorship.

Email all entries to TDForumWritingContest@gmail.com. Do not send the entry as an attachment; include it in the body of the email.

If you have a friend forward your entry to us, ask your friend to tell us that the entry has been forwarded anonymously. If you are that friend, please cut the entry and paste it into a new email, so the original contestant’s email will not show.

The topic for both poetry and prose is “fire”.

Joy and I will judge the entries.

The contest is now open. The contest will close at 11:59 p.m. on August 5, 2009, Alabama time.

Have fun! The last such competition we had here was lots of fun, thanks to the estimable management of RalphWalnutEmerson and to the good attitudes of all contestants. Let’s do it again, only this time ask a couple of your friends to participate.

Good luck to all!

WIP,

The prize is priceless. It is inestimable. It is a pearl of great worth, yet intangible.

The prize is the admiration of your friends. Even moreso than you already enjoy.

It's pretty sweet.

And even if you don't win, the prize for entering is the gratification that you hoisted your lance and jousted. Better to joust and lose, than never to joust at all. Much better.

Looking forward to your entry.

I can't speak for Joy, but I would like to see all sorts of prose, such as critiques, reviews, essays, etc. as well as stories.

Still, the best writing of whatever kind will be our picks.

Best of luck!

DF

Sounds great to me!

I cannot wait to read the entries. Please don't feel like your entry has to be on a professional level or on a amateur level. This is for the joy of writing, just for fun. It really is fun to unlock what is hidden within you that maybe you didn't even realize existed.

I consider it a great honor to read your work and certainly to judge it...I will handle it with care, promise! Smiler
