With the celebration of D-Day today I've been listening to stories from many of the D-Day veterans and so many did it because it was their job to do it and they were told to, as soldiers.  Most all told of how scared they were but regardless went into battle and almost a sure death.  So many that did die and still lie in the French Ground under the white crosses.  These are men who never ask for thanks and there were many others who supported and supplied them.  So many American Women who provided labor in the factories that provided the parts and tools of war as well as who maintained the families at home while their dads and husbands died or faced death.

These are men from a Generation that our nation never can thank enough who had a vastly different set of morals than many of us today have as well as different attitudes about so many things.  They have seen many changes and still they don't regret anything.  They are from a Generation of Americans who are said to be dying out at the rate of 300 a day (if that's correct) and that means most all will be gone within a few years.  I don't know if there will ever be another generation like them but one thing is for sure and that is so many young Americans, and Americans in general, don't know and respect them as much as they/we should.

My Thank you our World War II veterans for doing a job no one would rightfully want to do running into almost sure death to insure the rest of us can remain free.  Yes we owe a debt of gratitude to all veterans of all wars for their fight and their service but in the case of those in WWII in this war the fate of the Nation and freedom truly was at risk.  All wars since have been conflicts where Americans have died and fought to protect our Freedoms and rights but they were not conflicts where the American Homeland was actually at risk or our entire way of life was at risk.  All veterans deserve our respect and thanks and all vets deserve rights and benefits for their service and unlike many wars today we have an all volunteer military so while many were drafted and served out of obligation all vets are special and should be honored for their service.  Those from World War II however are disappearing at a far faster number and will not be around much longer to thank.
