It doesn't happen Church, but it must happen in Alabama somewhere, unless there is something in the water. There are Maternity hospitals in Alabama, I hope.

I think these random words strung together are meant as an insult, but I'm not sure how.

If you're from Alabama and have something negative to say, you can do so. If you've never set foot in the state, STFU.

Not in this lifetime. Bluesman presented this thread titled, "This don't happen in Alabama, no, no, no" and that sentence is a direct response to Bluesman. I will continue to express my opinion in this roomful of strangers. It is the only way we will ever get to know each other.

Hallelujah, Holla' Back! Now you've given me something to agree with you on, Nash!

I've never been to Arizona, so I really have no say in how the state is run or how the people there want to live. That's because I'm not knowledgeable about the state to have an opinion.

I grew up in Alabama and both sides of my family have lived in the Shoals for generations. I still call it my home state because I'm proud of where I'm from. I take personal offense to someone who has never set foot there trying to express an opinion about what goes on there or it's people. Again, until you've lived here, you have no place to criticize what goes on in Alabama.

Newsflash to all the guys - the girls in Playboy are all air brushed! I know, you still think that they are nice to look at, but I bet that 70% of them are somewhere between "not pretty" and "average" and only 30% or less are "pretty" to "____________"(speechless, drooling man with his tongue hanging out Razzer Eeker). Look at the most famous of Playmates. OK - Stop Looking! Now - think about the photos you've seen of them without make-up and good lighting and all that. Uh-huh... that's what I thought. Now go be nice to your wife, girlfriend, mama, or some other REAL female. Roll Eyes

And then Reason entered the door thinking with her head(yes, the one attached to her shoulders). Just another great comment from a truly smart chick! (At this point, I am standing applauding you!)

When Alabama and Arizona Become part of DIFFERENT nations, I will accede to your demand, IF you will promise to never Criticize what goes on in Iran, Iraq, Portugal, Africa, Or New York, California, Wisconsin and Georgia.

Unclegus, It's ok. I am not an outsider. I am every bit as much an American as you or NashBama. He seems to be offended because I did offer some advice on legalizing gambling or creating a state lottery in Alabama. It's about the only local issue I have touched on, unless you consider Christianity, or Presidential Politics Local issues.
The Playboy Format of Photo Essays on the Girls of Auburn is not a local issue either, I had a cousin in the "Girls of the NFL" issue in the late '70's or early 80's. She was a San Diego Charger Cheerleader. My comment was that it happens everywhere there are girls to look at and boys to look at them. Though I put it differently. AND THAT IS NOT A LOCAL ISSUE EITHER.

Technically, we're in the same country. However, Alabama and Arizona are worlds apart. Different environment, different culture, different way of life. You said...

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean, it's poorly written. The only thing I can make of it is that someone who has never been to Alabama is trying to insult the state where we live. A quick way to make a Southerner mad is when an outsider insults their home. For future reference, don't respond to local or state topics, it's not your place.

NashBama I have never intended to insult Alabama, though I have intentionally attempted to insult you. I am very sorry that you don't comprehend the meaning of the statement in question, It was in direct response to the title of the thread. The reference is to the article that says pretty girls attract the attention of the Publishers of Playboy Magazine. I truly believe that happens everywhere, even in Alabama. It probably happens in church, if the Publishers of Playboy Magazine are in attendance. I wonder if their fertile imaginations have ever come up with the Idea of a "pictorial" on the girls of Sunday School? That might offend even me.

If you feel that I have been insulting to Alabama, I would appreciate the opportunity to correct the slight. I have been to Alabama. I think there are some wonderful people there. I enjoyed the lush greenery of the wild parts of the state, was irritated by mosquitoes and other pesky insects, but was pleased by the warm weather and scenery.

Your "world's apart" comment is insulting to Arizona. I said, and will continue to believe that Alabama and Arizona are both part of the great nation named the United States of America. I have said, repeatedly, that I was drawn to this forum by comments made to me by residents and former residents of Alabama that were far from complimentary. I came into this space to find out for myself if their comments were accurate, and found, not surprisingly, that they were not. The fact is, with few exceptions, the people who have engaged with me on this forum have been quite genteel in comparison to People in some other parts of the nation. I have suffered few, and mostly very minor, assaults on my character. In fact, I think that I have been more abusive to you personally than anyone OTHER than you has been to me.

I take your whining about my comments to be an attempt, on your part, to drive me away from these discussions. Be assured, I will leave only if TimesDaily requests or insists that I stop speaking out here.
I appreciate having my own offensive utterances pointed out to me. I will defend any that I stand by, and will retract and apologize for any that I find indefensible.
I enjoy good natured banter, and take part in it on occasion. However, your assertion that I have a low opinion of Alabama, or the people of the state is unfounded.

You should try to word your posts more carefully then, the statement that started this thread was poorly written.

You do not understand Southern culture. Southerners take great offense to outsiders criticizing their hometowns or home states. My "worlds apart" statement is not an insult, it's a fact and your post proves it. I can only speak for myself, but as a Southerner, I believe in minding your own business. What goes on in Arizona and how the people want to live there is your business, what goes on in Tennessee where I live or Alabama where I'm from and my family lives is my business. Just because we're in the same country doesn't mean you have the right to criticize or comment about where we live. Like I said, we're worlds apart.

NashBama, My Family comes from Virginia, my ancestors have been a major part of the growth and expansion of this nation. I have relatives in Alabama. I am a distant relative of Charles Henderson. http://www.nga.org/portal/site/nga/menuitem.29fab9fb4ad...CM1000001a01010aRCRD
He was the 37th governor of Alabama.
I consider myself an American, I have blood relatives in virtually every state of the Union.
You make two errors. One is that I have a low opinion of Alabama and go out of my way to insult the state and its residents. The other is that I have no business doing that.
You, as a resident of Tennessee claim the right to take offense with insults to Alabama, based on family connections to Alabama. As with any family, my relatives are not all saints. http://www.clarkprosecutor.org/html/death/US/henderson971.htm
But this one lived in Georgia, he just did his deed in Alabama.
Like it or not NashBama, you and I are citizens of the same nation, and have every right in the world to try to make any part of it better.
