This is still our country

Somewhere along the line, our elected officials forgot the concept that the government of the United States is "of the people, by the people and for the people." Our founding fathers, tired of rule by an English King who tried to impose his will on the people, envisioned a government that answers to the wishes of the majority.

The key phrase in your statement is "elected officials". As long as we keep putting the status quo back in office, then we will continue to recieve the status quo. Think about it. Every single politician now runs on what they promise the government can give you. No one has the guts to stand up and say, "Hey, if you want to maintain the greatness of our country, then we're going to have to STOP spending money, CUT the taxes of hard-working people, FIX social security, STOP going into debt and pretending that we are rich, and actually LIVE by the law of our land." If I ran today and that was my platform, neither the Republican or the Democratic party would even take notice and you would never get a chance to vote for someone who could actually take care of the problems this nation has. At the rate we are going, it won't be "our country" very long. In fact, it may not be already. Until the majority of Americans stand up and say, "Give us some real candidates with some real ideas and real character" then we are doomed to failure at best and slavery at worst.
