Older women have told me all a woman had to do was go to her doctor...or other doctors willing to do abortions...and they were all around...and they would say  she'd been pregnant and had a miscarriage. The willing doctor would say she needed a D&C to clear out any left over remnants of the baby. That was the abortion. They say that they could get the abortion and have their insurance pay. If you didn't have insurance of course you paid...but it was listed on all the records as the D&C. Doctors were doing this...not back alley abortionists with clothes hangers.

Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a procedure to remove tissue from inside your uterus. Doctors perform dilation and curettage to diagnose and treat certain uterine conditions — such as heavy bleeding — or to clear the uterine lining after a miscarriage or abortion.

I've always heard that too, and the real old women said they had herbs and such for that and birth control, but most did want large families.
