WICHITA, Kan. — George Tiller's slaying has accomplished what anti-abortion activists had tried to do for decades: The doors to his Kansas clinic will shut forever. The announcement Tuesday from Tiller's family was a tainted victory for the nation's anti-abortion movement. For years, it made Tiller the focus of protests, legislation and legal attacks.

His death reignited a public debate over some abortion opponents' tactics and left many wondering how it will transform the abortion battleground.

Well, I guess the anti-choice assassins will feel energized by this event. If you can't change the law - kill the doctors.

Pro Life isn't antichoice.CHOOSE not to have unprotected sex if you don't want a baby. Not that hard. The guy that killed Tiller was a nut,but I am not going to mourn his demise anymore than you apparently mourn the demise of the thousands of innocent babies he murdered.

Ditto! Tiller's son:

His son, Maury, said the manner of his father's death resulted in an unimaginable outpouring of love and support for the family. But he added: "I struggle with the manner he was welcomed into heaven."
Late term abortions are NOT a matter of "birth control". They are performed to protect the life of the mother or for some other MAJOR health concern. They will continue without Dr. Tiller's clinic.

Women, for you people, are simply wombs. Their lives have no value and privacy is no issue. Abortion will remain legal, thanks in large part to the lunatic who shot Dr. Tiller.

I take the above quote to mean that his father was ushered into heaven by a lunatic, Christianist, murderer. Nothing else. I would "struggle" with the same thing if a member of my family were to be slaughtered.

Partial birth abortion is NOT used to save a mother's life. The baby is already born. It is used mostly as a means of birth control. Rarely it is used to destroy a child who is deemed to no have a chance to live a normal life, or is grotesquely malformed.

I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable when it comes to medical matters. I sat down with a well-known local colleage this week and we were discussing this matter. He is a local OB-Gyn. He could not identify hardly any "late term" medical emergencies whereby a late term abortion is required. He has been in practice for 10 years, and trained for many years previously. He could not identify one incident of a late term abortion that he had performed nor knew of being required, at least locally. Now, that being said, that does not mean that they do not occur, HOWEVER Dr. Tiller supposedly had performed 60,000 such cases in his short life. One man, 60K cases??? All medically necessary?
I do not relish in this man's murder, BUT it is irresponsible for it to be used as a tool to advocate "necessary" late term abortions. This man's lucrative business was being used as an elective service disguised as a necessity. Medical professionals will tell you there is no way this man could have justified that many procedures, legally at least.
I do believe a woman has a right to do what she wishes with her body, however a government who will not be an advocate for the unborn, should not in turn prosecute for double murder when a pregnant female is murdered. It is a double standard. There is also some responsibility (from the parents) that has to be claimed in the matter as well.
In 1984, I knew a young girl who hid her pregnancy from her parents until she was in her 6th month because she didn't want to have an abortion. They discovered her pregnancy. The next day she was admitted into the hospital and forced into labor against her will. She delivered a live little baby boy who was put aside to die. All because her PARENTS insisted on it. I hope there are measures in place today which couldn't let that happen to somebody else, but money talks. Offer someone enough money and they can justify anything.
Neb. doc plans to offer 3rd-term abortions in Kansas

By MARGERY GIBBS, Associated Press Writer Margery Gibbs, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 38 mins ago

OMAHA, Neb. – A Nebraska doctor said Wednesday that he will perform third-term abortions in Kansas after the slaying of abortion provider George Tiller, but would not say whether he will open a new facility or offer the procedure at an existing practice.

Dr. LeRoy Carhart declined to discuss his plans in detail during a telephone interview with The Associated Press, but insisted "there will be a place in Kansas for the later second- and the medically indicated third-trimester patients very soon."

"I just think that until everything is in place, it's something that doesn't need to be talked about" in detail, Carhart said a day after Tiller's family announced his Wichita clinic was permanently shutting its doors.

Well, until I'm a doctor or a woman, I'll leave it up to them to make that decision. You all are free to have a different opinion. It isn't going to matter anyway. There is nothing you can do to stop it except to send your crazy terrorists out to blow up clinics.

I was once a baby, so I feel fully qualified to say, that given the chance to choose life, I would have chosen life. Fortunately, my mother respected my wishes to continue living, and did not kill me. I am very thankful for my mother who chose not to murder me. Maybe you feel your mother should have killed you, or are you just a selfish pro-lifer in a pro-deather's body?

What you have just described is a medically induces "abortion", i. e., medical procedure resulting in dead baby. The only difference is Roe V. Wade makes it all legal and socially acceptable for doctor and patient (not so much for the dead baby).

Tiller's own records showed very "flimsy" reasons for late term abortions, including one girl who wanted one because pregnancy got in the way of sports.

His records are being shown to be 'inconsistent' at the very least. You paid enough, you got an abortion. Simple.

Tiller's "life saving" abortions ALL required a SECOND OPINION regarding medical necessity, from a independent doctor, outside his practice, but Tiller used another physician who was part of his practice to sign off of these procedures (not legal).
