ECM wants to build a new 288 bed facility. They now operate a 358 bed facility. Yet Hellen Keller and Doug Arnold have filed yet another appeal to the judge's ruling in favor of ECM. Isn't it time to join together against these childish selfish antics of this Huntsville Hospital puppet? I would suggest everyone boycott HK. The media and local governments should put pressure on HK and Doug Arnold to stop this nonsense. The current ECM was established in 1919. The proposed hospital would add jobs during construction. The area around the new hospital would encourage additional business growth. Look at the new Madison medical complex. We can all sit on our collective behinds and do nothing OR we can come together for a chance to better the entire Shoals area. Something I am sure Huntsville does NOT want to see happen.

Doug Arnold is hanging it up October 1st after only working at Helen Keller for 3 demanding years.  We wish him well, but his departure cannot come soon enough.

Helen Keller Hospital continues to bleed red ink.  Let me rephrase that in medical terms.  They are hemorrhaging red ink, and continue to spend fortunes in legal fees in their quest to minimize competition and the facility at the new hospital in Florence.

Helen Keller needs to get its fiscal house in order before spending money it doesn't have on fighting the new hospital construction.

Helen Keller turned down an attractive offer from Regional Care when they first came to town.  Instead, they gave away the shop to Huntsville Hospital.  Hopefully, we will get our regional level facility, and Keller's claim that they will go out of business will come true.

We should have had this level of hospital when I first moved here 25 years ago.

Check this cut & paste from Moodys from 2010-2011. It shows the ONLY reason HK is fighting the new hospital.

The only competitor in Helen Keller Hospital's market is the two-hospital system, Coffee Health Group, which operates Coffee Memorial Hospital in Florence and Shoals Hospital in Shoals. The smaller Shoals Hospital is located less than a mile from Helen Keller and has historically competed for physicians and patient volume. The more comprehensive service provider Coffee Memorial Hospital is located north, across the Tennessee River, which historically has not had high cross-over in medical staff. Coffee Health Group was recently acquired by for-profit Regional Care Partners and, as a result, management of Helen Keller Hospital expect increased competitive activity
