There are many, if not most, Churches that do very good work with the donations that their parishioners donate but there is also a very large number of Churches and/or ministers that hide behind a name and claim to be doing "God's Work" while all they are doing is enriching themselves.  Many, if not most, TV Evangelist and Pastors spend a lot of time soliciting people to give sacrificially unto them and playing games on people in order to enrich themselves.  I think of Robert Tilton, from Texas, whom was so obviously fake and phony that played upon the most innocent and gullible people.  It is time that the shield of Religion be lifted from allowing tax exemptions but this would also hit and damage a great many honest and faithful Churches that do good and are doing great charity work.

So how do you differentiate between the charlatans and the honest ones?  Frankly I don't know  but for the Churches that are doing good work they are using money that is given and money that has already been taxed by the Government with respect to those who give it.  Unfortunately, also, there are many Churches that are more consumed with building growth and concentrating on  things that are not Scriptural.

When it comes down to it there is much that people find, with the Church, to be critical of but there are also many Churches, a great many, that do charity work, feed the poor and needy, help out with utility bills and food and do so for people that are not necessarily members of their Church.  There is also a great many that concentrate on foreign and domestic missions and taking care of their missionaries.  For those who do such honorable work I do not believe they should have the burden of taxes on the funds they use for those honorable services however I very much believe there should be ways to punish those who hide behind the cloak of Religion in order to enrich themselves and if there is evidence that such is happening then the Government should be able to go after those who are perpetrating such but it is a slippery slope when you start going down that road and the possibility of targeting the innocent.

If you are going to remove tax exemption of Churches  then do so for all other charities as well for there are also those that hide behind Charities as well in order to enrich themselves so as not to discriminate.  I do not though believe that honest charities or honest Churches should lose their exemption so at the risk of inclusion of those who I very much believe should pay taxes upon all they gather account of gathering it for their own enrichment, the tax exempt status  should remain unless or until it can be proven that the Church/Religion/Charity is a sham and a front for personal enrichment and tax evasion then penalties should be available and enforced.

Those (Churches) that break the law and harbor illegals are not acting as Churches but rather political entities trying to make a statement and I have no problem or objection if the Government was to remove their tax exempt status or even if they were to prosecute those, in the Church, who were practicing such acts.  The Church should not be mixed up in politics.

That said though individual parishioners and even the Pastor and other's in the Church should have the exact same freedoms as other Americans to voice their displeasure in their Government or speak out when they believe Christian principals are being violated.  Breaking the law though should not be tolerated by anyone and parishioners of Churches that do obstruct justice should move to remove those who approve of such and cause such to happen from their post within the Church and as a whole restore the rule of law from within.

It takes nothing really to set one's self up as a church and apply for tax exemption. I wonder just how many "churches" the mexicans have set up just for the purpose of harboring, aiding and abetting illegals. Another reason churches shouldn't be tax exempt in the first place, and since they are, lose that exemption for giving sanctuary to criminals.

Why not just arrest those who are harboring criminals.  Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

That seems to be the favorite, and the most logical, opinion and fix for the problem, along with pulling their tax exemption.

How it's supposed to work is forced entry, forced take down,
forced subdued and forced into the back of a transport
truck headed for lock up. The judgment of God is swift and
just, and so should be our way for this land if we are serious
about ownership. Have we failed our forefathers and future
generations..??

What I can't figure out is how the government employees (mayors/governors/police chiefs...) who are allowing sanctuary citities to exist in direct violation of federal law get to keep their jobs.  Many conservative government employees and private sector owners have lost jobs and businesses due to not following the "law".  Double standard anyone?

And lost their jobs for speaking out.
