While grieving the loss of his long-time girl friend and sipping his Blue Ribbon at a picnic table beside a tumble-down honky-tonk just outside Elijay, Georgia, the late and lamented Nashville song writer, Phoebus Whipsnade, inspired by the "song" of locusts (cicadas) in a nearby grove, in a moment of inspiration penned these mournful and immortal lines:
Listnin' to the locusts,
So lonesome and blue.
Listnin' to the locusts.
And thinkin' dear of you.
Listnin' to the locusts,
And wondering where you are.
Listnin' to the locusts and hangin' on the bar.
Lost love and drinking--the stuff of country music!
