You are right on this Bluesman, I don't know if you are from this area or how long you have been here if you are, BUT (and you know the ol dog has to play devil's advocate) at one time the TD published obituaries for FREE. Someone in the advertising dept further up at the NYT came up with the idea that they would only publish basically the name of the deceased and date and if you wanted more than THAT you were charged for it. THIS really caused an uproar, lots of subscription cancellations and letters to the editor. It really did seem very cruel to charge for a decent obituary mentioning family members and such things as affiliations and occupations at the time of a person's death. It still does to me. It is a nice feature for the website, BUT a lot of older citizens (I know my mother is 83) couldn't navigate a PC if their life depended on it and the only way to get announcements of friends and loved ones passing was in the newspaper. IMO it still leaves me a little raw and seems like a disservice to the community. THE DOG
