About two-thirds said NO to the Shoals and one-third capitulated. Now here's what I want you to consider, under "Obamacare" YOU will NOT decide if it is Major Surgery, YOU will NOT deccide if is done here or else where or even if you qualify for the procedure. All these decisions can't be left capriciously to the private citizen or his primary care physician. There will be a new level of bureaucratic over seers that will review several factors relative to your age, probability of long term survival and your potential to be productive. Just like Obama has said, some of us are too rich...I mean just how much money does a person need...well, they are going to have the same operating philosophy for your medical needs under Obamacare. Obama accuses the Republicans of running the car into the ditch while he is pushing this entire nation off a cliff. If Obamacare is not stopped by re-allocating voting powers we are headed for a disaster. Do your research...you might want to put this fire out before it is out of control.

American by birth, Southern by the grace of God.

Another thing to consider about the poll results is I hear a number of people complaining (here on the forums and elsewhere) about how often EMS air evacs patients out to huntsville and elsewhere.

If 2/3s is not willing to have major surgery here in the shoals, why is it questioned when EMS sends major traumas (that will require major surgery and more) out of the shoals?

Could you show us where you get this information?

A worthy question, O No!

No one should accept blanket statements about the new health care legislation when proffered on a forum such as this without any documentation whatsoever. This is, after all, a forum on which a substantial number of participants cleave doggedly to the thoroughly discredited beliefs that the President is a Muslim and was born in Kenya. Given those kinds of gullible fantasies, how can one vest much confidence in anything posted here without some kind of supporting documentation?

I am not contending that the information posted is untrue, but I do believe that anyone posting here on a topic as often misrepresented as is health care legislation should not expect to be believed unless they provide some evidence or proof for what they are alleging. Fair enough?

H*** NO!!!
Smiler Cool I have had numerous life-saving procedures done in the Tri-Cities area. I also had procedures done at UAB and in one case came away with gangrene. Yes I have had and would have it again if needed. We have some very competent Physicans and Surgeons in this area.

Obamacare or not, I wouldn't have major surgery in the Shoals.

That's one good thing about living in the Birmingham area: access to excellent physicians and hospitals.[/QUOTE

yes I would the nurses from Mid-south says that they see more patients that have been to Birmingham with Staph Infection than any other hospital around,
I believe it is a myth we get better care somewhere else- for complicated surgeries/conditions then yes, we may have to seek out a specialist in that particular area but like some of the others I have known people personally who did not do well at all at Birmingham or Vanderbilt. If only we had that guarantee we would all live happily ever after if only we can go somewhere else for health care...
This was before Obama btw.
I don't get it about the healthcare bill. There are some very good changes in it that will affect many people I know. Maybe I know a different population than some of you?
Most people think they go to UAB or Vanderbilt and see a specialist and go there for surgery and that surgeon is the one who performs the procedure....that is usually not the case. In most cases in a teaching facility there is a "pecking order" where a chief resident and resident do the surgery, sometimes under the watchful eye of the surgeon (according to whatthe case is and how many times it has been performed).
The sad part is, when the patient returns to the area and has a complication, usually at 2 in the morning, and they call their doctor in Nashville or Birmingham, if they can get him or her, and they are told to go to the local ER.
Then the local surgeron, who they did not have confidence in to begin with, is tasked with fixing a problem he or she did not create, in what is typically an acutely ill patient.
On top of this, going out of town for care will eventually cause all of your specialities to dry up and go away. Then one day you won't have a choice where you go to get your surgery.
As to the comment about the brain surgery, I know the neurosurgeons well and they are excellently trained and usually very truthful as to whther they can help you or not.
I had surgery by one of them, here in the area, and it went perfectly. I have no resdiual problems, and had no complications. I certainly have no complaints.
