Hi to EH and BR,

Recently you folks at the TimesDaily have switched to a new format; which in many ways is faster. In doing this, you have removed the old TD Wilson Dam banner -- which I understand, for it took a while to download. The TD frontpage is not nearly so attractive nor as easy to read anymore; but, it does seem to download faster.

All of this is good; at least accepted.

However, now that you have added the "turbo" to the TD and to the TD Forums -- you have put a "fifty ton boulder" on the Forum which makes it even more frustrating to maneuver around.

I am speaking of the huge, humongous, really oversized Jerry Damson flash ad on the bottom of every Forum page. Every time I switch between Forum discussions -- I have time to go get a cup of coffee before the huge Jerry Damson's flash ad will allow me to read the discussions.

Two things are happening. I am drinking too much coffee! And, I am growing a huge, humongous, really oversized dislike for anything which reminds me of Jerry Damson. You might pass on to Jerry Damson that if when I, or my family, are in the market for a new car -- the name Jerry Damson will only remind us of aggravation -- not new cars.

Now, if the Jerry Damson ads were a wee bit more reasonable; so that I do not have to drinks so much coffee -- I might reconsider my negative feelings toward Jerry Damson. Just a thought.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill Gray

Hi Mrs. Carl,

I don't know how you avoid them. I am looking at one now that has to be nine to ten inches high and every time I click on a new discussion, I have to wait for it to download.

Possibly, you have "ad blocking" on -- but, when I did that before I could not post a new discussion nor could I edit one of my postings. Also, I could not post a PM. Once I turned off "ad blocking" everything worked. So, I am stuck with a ten inch Jerry Damson ad all the time.

Maybe Jerry Damson will have mercy on folks like me and reduce his ad to maybe three inches. Or maybe he is a friend of Fish and does not want me to be happy. Just a joke, Fish!

Is anyone else being cursed by huge Jerry Damson ads?

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Hi Maynard,

I have both on my system and have used both. The only difference I have seen is that Firefox has spell check in the posting window -- but, no speed difference.

And, especially when you have a ten inch high flash ad which insists upon reloading every time I switch from one discussion to another. If Jerry Damson is trying to be obnoxious with his ads -- he is very successful.

Hi HippieGirl,

You and I are having the same experience -- a ten inch high Jerry Damson ad. Maybe instead of telling the TD mods -- a lot of us should contact Jerry Damson direct and tell them how obnoxious their ads are and that they are a pain in the behind.

Just a thought.

Hi Joy,

Love your tag line: ~Life shouldn't be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather, to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly shouting, "Wow! What a ride! Thank You, Lord!" ~

Hi Miami,

I have done both long ago. However, that does not help when we have a ten inch high ad for Jerry Damson popping up on every discussion page change. Regardless of how well tuned our computers -- a ten inch flash ad is going to slow down all interaction. In my view, Jerry Damson is a pain in the butt with his ads.

The Damson ads reminds me very much of the guys who put ten woofer speakers in their car -- and turn up the bass so that everyone within two miles is forced to listen to their music. You see, the guys who do this think it makes them look really cool to have their music bursting everyone's eardrums -- just like Jerry Damson thinks a ten inch high ad will attract more attention than a three inch ad. All it attracts from me is a resolution to avoid Jerry Damson at all cost.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill, a taste of your own medicine!
Your complaint about the ad and how you feel about it is exactly the way some of us feel about the message you are putting out about your religion.

By having to read the propaganda you continuously put out makes me not want to have anything to do with it!

Please take this note as a lesson. Lighten up some, cause you ain't doing nothing but running people away from the very thing you are trying to convene them to do. The only ones who do appreciate what you say are those who are like you and they don't need your word. Wouldn't you rather to send out a message that might attract some newbies?

........VERY WELL SAID, Unclegus!!!!!!!
Hi Gus,

You tell me, "Bill, a taste of your own medicine! Your complaint about the ad and how you feel about it is exactly the way some of us feel about the message you are putting out about your religion."

Gus, my Friend, there is a world of difference between -- slightly inconveniencing the non-believers -- to share the Gospel with many, in the hopes that one seen planted in the mind of a seeker might come to harvest -- and in inconveniencing your clientele for the sake of making more money. And, yes, we on the Forum are a form of clientele; for without the thousands of us on the Forums to lure the advertiser's bucks -- there would be no revenue from those advertisers.

So, I am saying to the TD and to Jerry Damson: Damson, you are spending big bucks to get us to read your ads -- yet, you make the ads so obnoxious that many are turned off. Yes, Damson's ads might lure a few, which to an evangelist is worth the efforts spent. But, to a company such as Jerry Damson; spending big bucks to lure just a few is flushing money down the toilet. All he, and the TD, would have to do to make their ads much more attractive and much more alluring -- is to make them small enough to not make us mad; yet, creative enough to get our attention.

Now, I know that you will attempt to use this to say that I should not be writing my articles on the Forum. There is one huge difference. Jerry Damson is concerned about winning many customers to buy his cars. I am concerned about winning that one soul to Jesus Christ. So, I guess you are just stuck with me. However, Gus old buddy, there is a great invention which will help you. It is called the IGNORE button. Try it, you will like it!

Next, you tell us, "By having to read the propaganda you continuously put out makes me not want to have anything to do with it!"

Gus, my Friend, you do not need me as an excuse to not go to church. But, I can see your point -- it is much more comforting to have someone or something you can point to and say, "See! That is why I will not go to church!"

I am happy I can be your excuse. And, I am happy that I just might be the reason another might decide TO GO to church.

And, finally, Gus, you tell me, "Please take this note as a lesson. Lighten up some, cause you ain't doing nothing but running people away from the very thing you are trying to convene them to do. The only ones who do appreciate what you say are those who are like you and they don't need your word. Wouldn't you rather to send out a message that might attract some newbies?'

There are churches which teach just as you want. They are called Seeker Friendly churches -- and they will never talk to you about sin, hell, or any of that morbid stuff. After all, they want you in their pews as they pass their collection plates. This is how they build beautiful buildings which look more like Performing Arts Centers than churches.

The only problem with Seeker Friendly churches is that they are helping grease the slippery slope into hell. They will not offend you by telling you about hell -- but, few of them will help you avoid it either.

There is just one major flaw in your logic. I do believe that the main body of Forum folks I am inconveniencing tend to be the atheists, agnostics, and just vanilla flavored non-believers. These folks do not want to read what I write -- for, somewhere down deep, I am striking a chord in their soul which tells them, "You should listen. He is sharing the truth with you." That little voice is the deeply buried voice of God seeking to find its way to your heart.

But, then, as I have said before -- while I would love to see all these folks become believers; they are not my target audience. I am writing to those thousands who are standing behind the thirty or so who actively post -- and just reading. I will not leave them to the mercy of atheistic rhetoric.

However, Gus -- remember the IGNORE button. Works better than the Staples button.

By the way, Gus, I love the way you have taken the Jerry Damson Ad discussion -- and given me a good venue for speaking the Christian message again. Thank you for being my partner in sharing the Gospel.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Hi EH,

Thank you. We appreciate anything you can do to help us make the Forum experience attractive to many.

One reason you might not be experiencing the slow down is your computer. While companies such as TimesDaily will most likely have the fastest, latest whiz-bang computers -- the majority of folks in the real world are still using computers which are, 3, 4, 5 years old. While things might look wonderful on the whiz-bang super computers -- we folks still driving our car/computer which has a few miles on it -- and who cannot do as all the politicians tell us and run right down and buy the latest model to make the world green -- are still in the majority. And, we are suffering when every time we switch from one discussion to another, one page to another -- we have to sit and wait an inordinately long time.

EH, while I know that you are aware of the things I have just written -- maybe it will be an eye opener for someone in the ad department.

Once again, thank you for your help.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill
Bill, I am not trying to start an argument with you, Jerry Damson pays a Large amount of money for advertising on this site. We are just people across the country that choose this forum to read and reply to. We are just small people as far as this newspaper and it's forum is concerned. What I am trying to say is that, we are all just small fish in the big ocean that is this forum. Unfortunately, we do not get to decide who advertises on here or not. Because we do not, or because we do not pay a lot of money out for advertising, then we really shouldn't have any influence on who advertises on here or not. All we can do is to complain to the TD, and we are doing that. That is all that we can do at this point. I believe that the money that Jerry Damson is paying will come before our small involvement or interaction on this forum. Another thing, I am having NO problems what so ever with the Damson ad. I have Comcast High Speed Internet and a computer that is not new, it is a few years old, and none of this that you are complaining about bothers or affects me at all. Just wanted to let you know that I am one person that is NOT having problems with the Damson ad. Hope I made a little bit of sense here, Mr. Bill. Thanks, Donna

Whoops! Sorry, I gave the wrong impression. I'm not experiencing delays. I was just agreeing that the ad was rather large. Thank you for replying, EH. Smiler

Hi Donna,

You are right that we are the small people. And that Jerry Damson pays a premium for his ads.

However, ask yourself why Jerry Damson pays a premium for his ads -- to attract more of we small people to his dealership.

If his ads cause aggravation among we small people, and turns us into anti-Jerry Damson small folks -- then he is just spitting into the wind and wasting his money.

You pay for ads to attract folks -- not to anger them. So, maybe Jerry Damson would be wiser to spend a wee bit less, have more consumer friendly ads -- and earn a lot more return on investment.

Just a thought.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill
Bill, The number of people who get on here only to read these forums, added to the ones of us that get on to post is a very very small number indeed compared to the number of people in the Shoals Area, and all the surrounding cities in NorthAlabama, Not counting Tennesse, Mississippi, and Georgia. When you put the two numbers together, which group do you think is the Largest? And do you actually think that Jerry Damson is worried at all of our small number who read and post on here? No, because he has so many many more that he reaches with other ads. He is not gonna be scared off or immediately pull his ad on here just because we complain and say that we are not gonna go and buy a car from him. He probably doesn't care, he can get his customers from a lot of other places. The numbers here on this forum is just a drop in the bucket to him. So, don't be looking anytime soon for Jerry Damson to be taking down this Ad. He is probably never even gonna know that we have complained about it, nor would he care if he did hear it. We are just peons compared to the others he can reach with his ads. You cannot go up against a Giant.

T, do you keep all your clutter cleaned out? I do it several times a day when I have been doing a lot of different things or going to different sites. I use a program callee CCleamer. I would highly suggest it, It gathers up everything that you have been using and gets ride of it. It's very safe and I love it, I clean stuff out all the time when my computer begins to slow down a little. Check that, and then maybe find about some other programs that you may be able to use to clean up junk and stuff that is slowing your computer down. I know that it will slow mine down. And it doesn't take long to do it either. Hope this helps, if you need any more info or help, please just PM me. Good luck,, hon

Just go to CCleaner.com
I have Charter High Speed Internet and a computer that is not new, & this doesn't affect me either. I'm another person that's not having problems with the Damson ad.
BTW, Bill, since you don't live here in this area, Damson doesn't have to worry if you give him your business or not. Wink

Hi Donna,

If Jerry Damson is not concerned with the thousands of Forum readers -- then why are his ads primarily on the Forums?

Seems to me that he sees this as a major target.

Just a thought.

Hi Taciturn,

Possibly you have Ad Blocking turned on. However, if one wants to be able to initiate discussion; you cannot do this with Ad Blocking turned on. At least, that is what I found was blocking me the first few months I was a Forum member.

And, true, I do not live in the Shoals area; but, I do have family. And, the many thousands of other Forum readers mostly do live in the Shoals area.

I know that I am not the only one who is aggravated by the Jerry Damson ads. I may be the most vocal; but, by no means the only one.

But, I do appreciate the sentiment.

Hi Bob,

Well, you and I have the advantage that we can IGNORE one another. Like when someone comes on the Forum and hides behind the name of a famous person -- just so that he can sling mud at others without getting caught.

On the other hand, we have no IGNORE button for Jerry Damson.

So, if you do not like my post -- try a big dose of IGNORE. It will work wonders for you; might even improve your personality.

ROFLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!

Good one Gus!!!
Again, Bill, I'm not trying to argue with you. But, since you are all the way over in California, I don't see how you know if the forums are primarily a target for Jerry Damson, While he does advertise on the forum, he has a LOT of other advertising going on in and around the Shoals Area. The Times Daily paper, being one of them, plus many other print ads, not including the TV ads, that uses a well known Huntsville news guy that comes over and does all his TV ads for him. These forums ads are probably just again, a drop in the bucket for him. He probably had even forgotten that he is even advertising on this forum. Just a thought , my friend.
