In the last 8 years , I have gotten to know many from the Florence Police Depeartment, & yes a few are no longer there for what ever reason now. But the ones that has worked with us ,investigators & the ones in Court ,in a few Murder trials I have sit thru , have been nothing but but very well trained , prepared and Professional in how they handled the cases and very caring & compasionate to the victims familys . Only ONE without naming him , but I sure could if need be, was nothing but a Jerk . I do understand ,out of that many working in any profession ,they would a bad apple once in a while. I wish Tony Logan & his family the best . I have not ideal of why this has happened .
He is resigning Kindred. Tony is not one to burn bridges, but under Singleton I don't seem him wanting to come back after all that has happened. I think if the right opportunity came around he would come back. He will still serve the area in a similar capacity I'm sure. He is too good of an officer and a gentleman to not be in his field in the future.

The "letter" I don't think is as bad a situation as it is being made out to be. With his resignation, I'm sure the complaint filed by Singleton will be quashed.
I, like many, am not sure what he supposedly did in the first place. Some are talking about him sending some kind of letter? Unless he sent something totally unlawful, racial, threatening, etc. I can't see it leading to this. Like some say...he may be fed up with the whole situation. I am sure there are those in the department that love to stir trouble and look for an opportunity to "out" someone else for their own gain...I love our police force...they don't get paid enough to put up with excess drama that isn't warranted. He may figure it is time to move on.

I talked with someone today who would know the situation. Tony, being the good guy he is, tried to help out a friend by pulling a few strings. Unfortunately, he pulled the wrong strings at the wrong time and the situation blew up in his face. I'm very sorry about the whole situation, but he commited a crime and the right thing happened. He'll be lucky if he's not charged. This is a sad day. The person with whom I spoke said that when Wiliford left people were dancing in the halls and shouting hallaluia (metaphorically, of course); when Tony walked out the door today, it was like a death in the family. It's sad but true: Tony screwed up, and he's having to pay an expensive price for it.
Actually take it or leave it, what Tony did many officers have probably done before -- you know, like fix a ticket? This time though, Singleton decided to take it to the ABI. Something that many others -- including Singleton have probably done before, help a friend who's trying to get his life back on track, and Tony gets to pay a high price.

I am honored to know him personally and call him friend. He has not shamed anyone. He even resigned to let the investigation and the negative press that would come stop before it took a toll on the PD again -- unlike Williford and others have done in the past -- Tony took his "punishment".

So, in other words, he did NO different that most Cops do in certain situations. I know it don't make it RIGHT, but it happens and we all KNOW it happens!!!

Poor Tony!!! I got a feeling that he will come out on top of the situation in the long run, and flourish!!!

Sounds like he is just too good of a guy not to.

Just to clarify, Tony Logan was a Deputy Chief at Florence Police Department.  He was also under a different administration.  At the time, Singleton did what he had to do based on the fact that Logan was intoxicated and involved in an accident.  I don't believe that Singleton took any pleasure in having to deal with his close friends Logan and Williford.  He did the right thing by letting them go.  Their behavior was inappropriate.  I know who I'm voting for...

BTW: Who got away with drinking and driving?

Sounds like someone else has a grudge (YabbaDabba), you just had to bump this post?

OK, so let me try and get this straight. Bear with me here. So, Logan was involved in an incident in Florence also where he was driving intoxicated and involved in an accident? This is news to me also. I had no idea.

So, again just trying to get this story straight, Logan has been involved in 2 DUI accidents? And he is STILL the Police Chief in Tuscumbia?  How is this possible?

Anyone care to list how many officers has been let go for wrong doings under the former chief?  My guessing more than any other officers in any PD in the Shoals or North Alabama. And why are they the only department that is not required to take a random urine test or blood test but once a year when they are told about it way ahead of time.  Tony might have been wrong for what he did, but from what I've been told he did no more than some others have.

Unclegus, I stand corrected.  I do recall there was a different set of circumstances surrounding Logan's resignation.

Yabba, Florence Police Department is better because of Singleton.  Don't blame the chief for the misconduct of the few.  There are bad apples in every occupation.  Yes, some have been let go and probably more than any other department.  FPD is the largest department in the area so odds are you may have some personnel issues.  It seemed that most of those that were let go were upper administrators, as I recall.

Yabba give it a rest. I can't believe you resurrected an ancient thread to smear him. Both Singleton and Haddock are men of character. Either was a win for the city. I'm sure Haddock will do fine and I'm sure Singleton would have. For your education the city of Florence is under civil service protection. You just can't fire anyone you want. What you call covering up in all reality is following the policies and procedures of the city. Every officer caught slipping up has been disciplined within the guidelines provided.
