It's a sad day for the Florence Police Department. They have lost one of their best leaders. I wish Tony all the best in his future endeavors.
I knew I had seen you speak VERY highly of this man. I have never heard anything at all bad about him.

But I would THINK that they would have a discipline system. Like maybe a week off without pay before going this far with someone that even Rick Singleton said did a GREAT job.
I know City Governments do weird things sometimes.
The "letter" I don't think is as bad a situation as it is being made out to be. With his resignation, I'm sure the complaint filed by Singleton will be quashed.

I, like many, am not sure what he supposedly did in the first place. Some are talking about him sending some kind of letter? Unless he sent something totally unlawful, racial, threatening, etc. I can't see it leading to this. Like some say...he may be fed up with the whole situation. I am sure there are those in the department that love to stir trouble and look for an opportunity to "out" someone else for their own gain...I love our police force...they don't get paid enough to put up with excess drama that isn't warranted. He may figure it is time to move on.
I talked with someone today who would know the situation. Tony, being the good guy he is, tried to help out a friend by pulling a few strings. Unfortunately, he pulled the wrong strings at the wrong time and the situation blew up in his face. I'm very sorry about the whole situation, but he commited a crime and the right thing happened. He'll be lucky if he's not charged. This is a sad day. The person with whom I spoke said that when Wiliford left people were dancing in the halls and shouting hallaluia (metaphorically, of course); when Tony walked out the door today, it was like a death in the family. It's sad but true: Tony screwed up, and he's having to pay an expensive price for it.
I am honored to know him personally and call him friend. He has not shamed anyone. He even resigned to let the investigation and the negative press that would come stop before it took a toll on the PD again -- unlike Williford and others have done in the past -- Tony took his "punishment".

So, in other words, he did NO different that most Cops do in certain situations. I know it don't make it RIGHT, but it happens and we all KNOW it happens!!!
Poor Tony!!! I got a feeling that he will come out on top of the situation in the long run, and flourish!!!
Sounds like he is just too good of a guy not to.
Bump.
Don't drink and drive some can get by with it and others can't seems that Tony was just treated different than someone else. Not saying he was right or wrong, but did someone have a grudge against him. http://whnt.com/2012/08/08/flo...ice-news-conference/ I know who I am voting for mayor, do you....
Interesting. So Tony Logan was the police chief in Florence at one time? I didn't know that. I've been awake 10 minutes and already learned something new this morning.
Man, was someone BORED this morning...to have ressurrected this OLD thread.......

I didn't either.. I wonder what years he was in Florence?
nevermind,, i see the thread started in 08

I agree but me and ribbit did learn something from this thread. Thanks YabbaDabba!
Just to clarify, Tony Logan was a Deputy Chief at Florence Police Department. He was also under a different administration. At the time, Singleton did what he had to do based on the fact that Logan was intoxicated and involved in an accident. I don't believe that Singleton took any pleasure in having to deal with his close friends Logan and Williford. He did the right thing by letting them go. Their behavior was inappropriate. I know who I'm voting for...
BTW: Who got away with drinking and driving?
Sounds like someone else has a grudge (YabbaDabba), you just had to bump this post?

OK, so let me try and get this straight. Bear with me here. So, Logan was involved in an incident in Florence also where he was driving intoxicated and involved in an accident? This is news to me also. I had no idea.
So, again just trying to get this story straight, Logan has been involved in 2 DUI accidents? And he is STILL the Police Chief in Tuscumbia? How is this possible?
The politics in Hooterville can be fairly complicated at times.
Anyone care to list how many officers has been let go for wrong doings under the former chief? My guessing more than any other officers in any PD in the Shoals or North Alabama. And why are they the only department that is not required to take a random urine test or blood test but once a year when they are told about it way ahead of time. Tony might have been wrong for what he did, but from what I've been told he did no more than some others have.
Logan had already resigned and was chief in Tuscumbia before getting dui!
Unclegus, I stand corrected. I do recall there was a different set of circumstances surrounding Logan's resignation.
Yabba, Florence Police Department is better because of Singleton. Don't blame the chief for the misconduct of the few. There are bad apples in every occupation. Yes, some have been let go and probably more than any other department. FPD is the largest department in the area so odds are you may have some personnel issues. It seemed that most of those that were let go were upper administrators, as I recall.
Logan had already resigned and was chief in Tuscumbia before getting dui!
Gotcha. Thanks unclegus. I figured if it were true I'd have heard about it before now anyhow.
Yabba give it a rest. I can't believe you resurrected an ancient thread to smear him. Both Singleton and Haddock are men of character. Either was a win for the city. I'm sure Haddock will do fine and I'm sure Singleton would have. For your education the city of Florence is under civil service protection. You just can't fire anyone you want. What you call covering up in all reality is following the policies and procedures of the city. Every officer caught slipping up has been disciplined within the guidelines provided.
I'd just like to say as long as Tony is owning up to and paying for his crime(DUI) through the proper channels then he is alright in my book. We all make mistakes and he is no different than you and I. Hopefully he will learn from it and not do it again.
I'm still trying to figure out how Logan was charged with a DUI if no officer witnessed him driving or otherwise in control of a vehicle.
I too believe there is plenty room for doubt!
I too believe there is plenty room for doubt!..............................I agree Gus. Tony Logan was already in HIS Home when the FPD charged him with DUI.
