Can a room monitor explain the difference in closing a topic and removing a thread all together? Sometimes they are closed but remain viewable and othertimes they are completely removed. I understand removing those with content that is actionable but why close one and leave it for all to see? Just curious.

bubba -- this is not a topic that anyone of us members could actually answer for you. we are in the same boat as you -- sometimes our topics get locked and sometimes deleted and we have no explanation. Here is EH's email -- I'm sure if you contact her directly she can give you a more suitable answer and I'm sure if you tell her which thread she can give you the rundown...

or you could click the report post triangle at the end of your post and ask them that way...
Girls, you should know this. I was in a very heated argument with Bubbaluck and his buddies. I guess the TD decided it was waaay too heated to let it go any further. Bubba, you have to know the rules, I dont know if it was you or one of your buddies, You kept calling me the Room Monitor,As I told you, I was Not the Room Monitor, There is NO room monitor. Just the two Moderators at the TD itself. Obviously you or one of your buddies said something that was against the TD rules and they closed the topic. I also want everybody to know that I apologized 2X to these people and they chose to just ignore it. So, I did my part,My last post was to tell Bubba and his friends that I was no longer posting on that subject, It was ridiculous the way that they attacked me, feel free to go to the topic and look for yourself and you be the judge, I honestly hope that you do,If i did anything wrong, please let me know, I will take constructive criticism. Thanks, The topic I believe, was something about the Asst Police Chief in Florence, there were some names named Straight out, and some others could have figured out who exactly they were talking about. I tried to tell Bubba and his friends that this was not the right thing to do, and to just wait and see what came out in the TD about this particular situation. They could not wait, They thought they had the right to know immediately, that the Times Daily Owed them an explanation for what happened,I told them that the policy of the TD was Not to do this at this particular time. But, they would not listen,so I washed my hands of the whole topic and left it. Dunno , it's all crazy. Thanks for letting me explain.
Tact, did you read all the posts. I hope that you do. The remark about the room monitor did not bother me as much as the name calling and being totally callous toward me, and not being man enough to accept my 2 apologies. You know me, I do not usually respond to this kind of garbage, but when I'm attacked, I do respond, this is actually the first time. Thanks hon.
thank you smurph for that comment. Also, Tact, you know me, you realize that this is the 1st time I have ever had an even close to even being sarcastic, mean, hateful, or any other description that may come to mind. I guess this is my first and my last. I will not respond to any more foolishness. If I can't say anything nice, then I will not respond at all, I'll just let them fight it out amongst themselves. I just wanted someone else that was not involved in this "disagreement", if I was warranted or not, I still have no answer on that, but it's all over now, It's forgotten, I'm staying out of any further messes on this forum or any other for that matter. Thanks

The why are you here if we upset you so badly? I don't see a "romp in the making".
Donna was asking an honest question & I gave an honest answer.

Oh, and will you please explain to Bubba that I have Absolutely NOTHING to do with the TD, I am not a room monitor

I don't think he was serious when he called you a room monitor. He was probably being sarcastic.

Donna, I am terribly sorry I have caused you so much angst. Of course I did not seriously think that you were a moderator. I did think you were acting like the hall monitor attacking two people who were having a discussion that as far as we can tell did not have anything to do with you. I don't have any buddies on here and we were not ganging up on you. I think you attacked first and I am sorry I resonded. I won't do that again. Please accept my apology and move on. I will not respond to anything you post again, even if it has to do with my family, my life or me personally. It just would not be worth all the misery it apparently causes you.
Go in peace, I will sign off before I interact with you again, I promise.
That is not necessary, I have already decided to not argue with anyone regardless of the topic, that is just not me at all. There is no need for U to not to respond to me especially if I said anything about your, your family, your life, etc. I would surely expect for you to defend those you love. And don't worry about me , or about responding to me, it's all kewl, I apologized, you apologized and for me that's the end of it. Forgotten, Gone. I actually was not in any misery, i promise, it's no biggie, It's all forgotten. You should not be afraid to be on at the same time that I am, I'm not going to start anything with you , nor it appears are you with me, so just go on like you are, and I will too. We can be on a Public Forum without any of that stupid stuff that happened. Just do as I did, just forget it and let it go. I have and I hope you can do the same. By the way, Apology acceptetd. Thanks.

There aren't any 'room monitors' here. Smiler The Mods are EH and AM- they are the ones who decide these things.

I don't know why some are locked and some are deleted. I guess it depends on how heated the topic becomes, or if they feel it might become libelous.

I've seen many locked and deleted, over time, and it seems those two issues are pretty much the majority of the cause for deletion/being locked. Smiler

---

For the other issue, I read the thread, and couldn't understand why there was an arguement. Whileas, better wording could have been chosen on either side; I think that Donna's intention was to help. I think she was trying to tell the people on the thread that the speculation could turn libel and that kind of thing is usually deleted.

Smiler That's just my observation. I didn't see malice in her words, nor really on the other side. Seemed like it was a misunderstanding with words, instead of really an arguement. That happens a lot, the type written word is sometimes hard to gauge. Big Grin

My suggestion, is to ask EH or AM. It's good to know what to /try/ to avoid so that our threads and those we reply to, do not get locked and deleted. Smiler

I think the reason the one about the asst chief got closed is because someone named Donna butted into the thread and tried to intimidate everyone accusing them of violating this and that and then claimed she knew everything, like she does in every thread by the way. It was also probably embarassing to the Times Daily since the thread was actually questioning why they hadn't reported something with the operation of the city government. DLC is very sensitive for instance, I was addressing a reply to a user named introvert in one post and she thought I called her an introvert then went on and on endlessly how she wasn't. It's unfortunate she has taken on this role of the forum alpha user to control us all.

I agree. I read the post. It was a typical conversation between a couple of folks like I have seen many times in this forum. I heard this, wonder why that hasn't been made public, etc. I think Donna's first comment was meant well. I think the responses back and forth from there got a little out of proportion. I didn't see any real reason for an argument or name calling.

Folks, this is an opinion forum for sharing opinions. Anyone should feel free to offer their opinions (even if others disagree) or discuss various rumors, etc. That's what it's here for. Let's all be adults and try not to get into personal attacks with one another.

Donna , I went back and read the post that was closed .
It seemed to me that this bubbaluck and evilgenius was the only two talking about this issue ,so to me it seems like they only wanted to get a big ole juicy mess of gossip going .You can bet both are friends and was fueling each other with the comments . They only wanted to cause nasty rumors . Wink

I dont think Donna butted in cause she has every right to to post a comment on any thread she chooses. This is a public forum not private. If you dont want someone commenting on your posts then take your conversation to a PM.
Much great Thanks to both of you 2each, and tnt, This is the Very first time I have ever lost my temper and said thing that I would never ever do. I was not feeling well that night and I believe that is one reason I went off. Then, a few nights ago, I was reminded of that post, and I went back and saw that eveilgenius had said something else, so, I blew up again, so,I"m sorry that I blew up like that, But it will not happen again, If I can't say something Nice, I"m not gonna say anything at all. Thanks again for the support. Love ya
Since when does reporting something in a post make anyone a tattle tail? I have reported things in my own comments and threads and told them to edit me or delete me. I have reported things in comments that strike me as odd or possibly offensive to give them a heads up to look at it and then handle the situation however they see fit. Reporting something doesn't mean it gets closed, locked or even edited -- it just means "Hey Mod -- I know you are busy and you might miss this so take a closer look."

At the time of the thread being discussed here there were only 2 mods. They have always encouraged us to report things to help them do a better job. So call me a tattle tail like DLC if you want too -- I feel like I'm back in 3rd grade...

Tattle tail tattle tale hang your britches on a nail,
Hang 'em high, hang 'em low...hand 'em in a toilet bowl...

Or better yet...

Sticks and Stones may break my bones
but words will never hurt me....
