Since it's fine for christians to interpret the bible anyway they want to justify their prejudices, what if everyone did that? Not sure what you get from this story but children reading it could very well come away with the idea that the different races shouldn't mix. (Oh my children, look how unhappy god was when people worked together!) It's a stupid little story, poorly written and I cringe to think of little kids reading it or having it read to them.

b50m, I've had it explained to me as a child that the reason for different races is because of what happened with the Tower of Babel.  How did the people think they were better than god?  And yes, christians most certainly do use the bible to justify their prejudices. One example is bill's thread about Home Depot.

Home Depot does in fact support homosexuality.  That is not dis****ble; it is fact..  Whether it is to boycotted is another matter.  I sure ain't drivin' an extra 10 miles to go to a Lowe's or other store if a Home Depot is across the street.  I don't boycott Levi's jeans or other products made by companies that "support homosexuality." Look beneath the the skin of most corporations and you will find some kind of ethical or moral basis to disagree with their policies, but it is too much trouble to try to keep up with everything that businesses support or oppose or that their corporate big wheels support or endorse and order your commerce to avoid anything they market.  You Home Depot boycotters--if you have a tradesman to work on your home, do you disallow him from using materials bought at Home Depot?  How far do you take this thing?

Jenn,,,,God did what he did because of the Idolatry that was going on in the

tower. They had only finished the second level when God stopped it.

Not because of race.

.

I don't think you're in danger of losing your job due to a boycott by a few nutjobs.  They won't boycott anyway. Taking Home Depot away from a man is like banning kids from Toys R Us. What I meant about the tower invic was that you can interpret things in the bible to suit your own thoughts. For instance, anyone against race mixing can say god scattered them and gave them different languages and never intended for them to mix again, and to do it makes god sad/mad/etc. As with the homosexual issue, in the bible god's against it, some say, so people with prejudices against ***s run with it. Others might not.

Gods not against syag anymore than murders. I just don't know of a town full

murders that God destroyed the whole place.

God will hold racism against a person. Don't do it, it ain't right and it ain't worth it.

I've got news for that Neanderthal Bill G. If he is going to start boycotting companies because of their anti-discrimination policies toward *** people, he may find himself without a place to shop. The Human Rights Campaign issues a yearly report that grades companies on their policies of this nature and the majority are inclusive. And every year the report just gets better and better. In related news, a recent poll showed that 53% of Americans now support same-sex marriage. So I guess Bill G. is now in the minority. How does it feel Bill?
