LET THE BIBLE SPEAK

"SHAMEFUL EVENT TO SPEAK OF"

"For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now {you are} light in the Lord. Walk as children of light ... and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose {them}. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret" (Eph. 5:6-8, 11, 12). It is way past time for our society and the news media to stop obsessing over Anna Nicole Smith. My prayer is that is that at least Christians are disgusted by a tramp and a ***** from Texas (with at least three idiotic men claiming to be the father of Anna's baby and who is famous for all the wrong reasons) getting all this media attention.

Indeed, it is a tragedy that this women died, but the greater tragedy is that she's lost eternally and will take many others with her. Let us think on things that are right, that is, "fitting for saints" (Eph. 5:3). Our souls are too precious to sell out for the short term and eternity too long to miss being with the Lord (II Thess. 1:6-9). Have you obeyed the gospel?

THE EAST FLORENCE CHURCH OF CHRIST

1800 Huntsville Road - Florence - 764-7611
We meet Sundays 9:30 a.m. & 5:00 p.m. Wednesdays 7:00 p.m.
WATCH "Let the Bible Speak" on COMCAST CHANNEL 3
Sundays at 9:00 a.m. & Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.

Now, I'm definetly no expert on the Bible and will never claim to know it all as I think no one can but for a so-called christian to refer to someone as a "tramp and a *****" and to say that "she's lost eternally" makes it appear to me as if he thinks he is the almighty himself. Did I miss judgement day? Is it for us to judge? Regardless of what she has done or what anyone thinks she has done does anyone know what went on in the last moments of her life?

I was shocked when I read this and just thought I'd put it out here for your input.

Would this not be judging?
john 8:2-11

2. And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them. 3. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4. They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6. This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with [his] finger wrote on the ground, [as though he heard them not]. 7. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. 8. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 9. And they which heard [it], being convicted by [their own] conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, [even] unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. 10. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 11. She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

There ya go, Shawn Smith
Why not look to your own sins before casting stones at others?

I thought of that one also.

don't judge all churches of Christ because of an article written by east florence church.
and no, we sure don't think we are the only ones saved

Thanks, rmom. You know I think the CoC gets a bad rap around these parts because of just a handful of people. Myself, I have attended several churches in the area both baptist and CoC and have found that a smaller CoC out of town is where my family belongs. East Florence doesn't represent what the CoC is about in my book if this is how they preach. Our church preaches love, acceptance, and forgiveness--and no we don't think we are the only ones that are gonna be in heaven. Judging all the Churches of Christ based on this one would be as insulting to us as judging all the baptist congregations on the big church on Avalon in Muscle Shoals. And as far as Anna Nicole goes--I just think she was just an overwhelmed over indulged celebrity just like a whole lot of others out in Hollyweird. She wasn't evil--she was just Human like the rest of us.

Did it put any lost souls on the path to Heaven?

tdreader,

I am sad to say that I awoke this morning as a heathen. Upon my first cup of coffee, and through the grace of the TD, I was allowed the opportunity to read the prophetic words of Rev. Smith.

I'll admit that I was stunned at first. Then, after closer reading, I noticed his scripture which addressed the ills of being an "unclean person" and that "the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience." Being a daughter rather than a son, I was happy to know that I was getting the better end of the deal, yet I decided it would be in my best interest to take a shower immediately. To the Rev. Smith's credit, I felt cleansed.

Upon my return to the Rev. Smith's call for salvation, I saw that he is praying for disgust on the part of Christians. Mind you that I awoke a heathen with no hopes of conversion within just a few hours, but I thought I should at least give disgust a good effort. Frankly, I just couldn't bring myself to be disgusted with a victim of our culture, no matter how disparaging or abusive the epithet. Even yelling these words did little to help me achieve the true disgust for which the Rev. Smith prays. I thought the "from Texas" part might help, but I just didn't feel it like the Rev. Smith had hoped. Even the "three idiotic men" weren't enough to bolster my feelings. I wasn't ready to give up though, because I knew he was praying so hard for me when he purchased that classified ad in the TD.

I had a realization as I sat there, still cleansed from my shower but devoid of disgust. Perhaps God would understand if I could develop a substitute for Rev. Smith's disgust, one which would stir similar feelings in me. After a few seconds of thought, I realized that I am quickly and readily disgusted by narrow-minded, self-righteous, pandering morons. The first one who came to mind happened to be an idiotic man from Alabama. Better yet, I could even see that not only is it a tragedy that this man is such a self-righteous moron, but that this tragedy ALSO pales in comparison to the fact that he might "take many others" down his same narrow-minded path.

I hesitate to assert that the disgust brought about by this substitution will suffice for that which is "fitting of saints" in Rev. Smith's world. I did try my best, though. Perhaps I should speak with him personally to discuss the matter. I certainly appreciate that he was kind enough to offer his address and phone number. He asked if I've obeyed the gospel, so I think he may be interested in hearing more. In his writing, wherein the "Bible Speaks," I'm so very glad he reminded me of this important fact: "Let no one deceive you with empty words." I do not worry about being deceived by Rev. Smith, and I do not worry that his words are empty. To the contrary, I was rather astonished at just how clearly his words were full of something.

Do you think he will appreciate the ingenuity demonstrated in my efforts to muster up disgust for others? Or will he just tell me to go to hell? I'd better take another shower.

Ya know, that is just wrong. This mere man is placing himself in God's place and talking DOWN to anyone who reads that article.

"JUDGE NOT, LEST YOU BE JUDGED"

The only thing I can really say about this is that I am just tired of all the media hype over her and her life. It isn't that I liked OR disliked her, but she is just a mere woman who made a tragically wrong decision, and a baby girl will pay for that mistake forever.

And it also looks like any money she has, will be taken by the lawyers fighting all this fight.

I just wish they would QUIETLY do a paternity test on the baby, give it to her REAL father, the one who WANTS her for her and not for any 'estate' tht goes with her...
I can't believe a pastor would call someone this in a sermon, much less have it printed in a newspaper. No matter what a person does in their life, Jesus loves them. He loves the most sorry sinners just as much as he loves those who do live right and it breaks his heart when they sin, BUT he still loves them, and it is up to the christians (especially pastors) to show Gods love to everyone, no matter what they have done. That is what would make a difference in their lives, not shunning away from them.

It doesn't really shock me, especially coming from the Church of Christ. Aren't they the ones who think they are the only ones going to heaven?

When my grandfather (who was Baptist) passed away before I was born, my mother and grandmother were told tha he was "going to hell" by some inlaws because he was not Church of Christ.....that is what my mom and grandma told me.

I have visited the Church of Christ before when I was around 12, and was told even then if I was not saved AND going to the Church of Christ, I was going to hell. The two VBS's that I went to and told this was Killen Church of Christ and North Carolina Church of Christ. I have not stepped one foot back into the CHurch of Christ sense, and no plans to.

Now, about the article. ANS was a **** and a *****, her actions proved it. She has upwards of 4 men claiming to be the father of her daughter (sounds like a Maury Povitch show.."you ARE the father!!"), she did drugs of all kinds, and her show was a disgrace.. I don't need an article like what the TD published to tell me otherwise.

What I want to know is this: all these men claiming to be the sperm donor (not father or daddy, fathers and daddies wouldn't be acting like this..): would they be rushing to claim "I AM the father!!" if the poor child was not the potential aire to several million dollars? Me thinks not.

What a mess, and what a none-story. What a waste of the TD's time and effort, and what a waste and effort of the writer of the letter/story. There are more important things to worry about. Additionally, I am sick of it...especially on cable news (FOX, MSNBC, etc).

Apparently you didn't read the story closely or follow the link. This was NOT a story in the TD, it was a paid ad placed in the TD by the East Florence Church of Christ.
I am not knocking all Church of Christ, but after years of hard partying and big time sinning, me and my husband joined a local church. He was raised in the CoC, and I was raised Baptist. You would think my husbands family would just have been thrilled that he had accepted Jesus as his savior and was living right, but the most of them throwed a fit cause it was not their church, now we believe that as long as you go and try your best to live right, it does not matter where you go as long as you go. To me this is not about Anna Nicole Smith...This pastor should not be calling her names and condeming her, he should be praying for her soul, or anyone else's soul that is lost. It is all about the Love of Christ. Again, I am not knocking The Church of Christ, just telling our experience with some family members who do attend the Chruch of Christ, and this was 14 years ago, so some things surely have changed since then.

OK, then, it was an ad, published IN the TD, close enough for me and for most people.

I agree with you allysmom, No preacher has the right to condemn anybody. His purpose is to tell the word and to give comfort if needed. Way too many people give the preacher the authority to decide what is a persons fate.
You and I know who's job that is, and no person on this planet fits that description. If anybody that goes to East Florence Church of Christ reads this forum please invite your pastor to read these posts and see what is thought of him. Or is it that he(you) are above your peers?
