Okay, so we bought this house last summer and it has two big Sugar Maples in the front yard. I noticed over the winter that the bark had started to turn dark but not being familiar with trees I thought maybe it was part of the seasonal change. Now it's looking absolutely charred and it's creeping upwards to the point that they're black 2/3 of the way up. All the other trees in my neighborhood are either getting buds or little leaves and mine are doing nothing. Now I see a whitish ring pattern forming on the trunks as well. I've researched and it sounds like it might be maple wilt, but I can't find any pictures of the actual trunk bark with the disease. Does anyone know? Is there a reputable tree service in the area? I want to try to save the trees if I can. I don't want some chainsaw happy tree service to try to talk me into cutting them if it's at all possible to save them. They are the only trees in the front yard. Frowner Thanks!

JustMe, thanks so much for the suggestion! I did call and they will be able to come over later this week!!! I am so happy! I know if there's any way to save the trees, they'll encourage it.
