I live in Tuscumbia, and I can't tell you what has happened to all the shops downtown, but it is beginning to look like a ghost town again. Well I am personally glad that Harvey Robins has stopped putting money into the city. Every time he put money into the city my bills would increase, and nothing that has been done has benifited me. My children are about grown, so the rides at the park didn't, but my utility bill went up. The water show I could care less about, but then my water bill went up. So I say let him keep his money in his pocket and maybe the residents of Tuscumbia can keep some in theirs.
I think it might have something to do with the way the people of Tuscumbia do their best to make you feel like an outsider if your ancestors didn't hop off the Mayflower and put roots in Tuscumbia. Alot of people who live there seem to be very pretentious and elitist and clan-ish. Just an observation. If you want to succeed in business, you have to welcome ALL.
Well, the rest of the nation thinks anybody from Alabama is a slack-jawed, sloping forheaded, slobber drooling inbred idot. I really don't think they care which side of the river we're from or whether we're from Tuscumbia, Sheffield, Muscle Shoals, Montgomery, Huntsville or Birmingham, lol! I guess even amongst the bottom of the barrel there has to be some sort of caste system. However, all you cliquish folk need to remember that society still sees you as stupid rednecks just like they see the rest of us. You may be wealthier but that just makes you wealthy stupid rednecks. Big Grin

Why the animosity? BTW, you used the possessive "your" where you should've used the contraction "you're." I just thought you wouldn't want to look like a stupid redneck. Roll Eyes

Zuter, no animosity here! I'm good natured about the ribbing I get from being from Sheffield. By the way, I redid my post a good ten minutes before you quoted my typo. Guess you must have stepped away after pulling up the "quote" screen but before you typed your response. Could I get you another cup of coffee this morning?
What brings people to downtown Tuscumbia? City population can't support that size downtown. Consistent County business it about all that keeps many coming downtown.

Why don't you buy up about six blocks of old buildings...knock them down...then sell the land to a residential developer to build dense homes properties with park areas...and shrink the downtown but making it BETTER and VIABLE.

Increase population and reduce burden at the same time!

Yes, please. That would be great! Wink

Sorry if I took you the wrong way.
Robbins will be making his much anticipated return to Tuscumbia in the coming months. He has already bought a piece of land just north of Spring Creek on the hill up from Malone's to use in his future plans. Lets just say he's getting back on track from where he left off. There are a couple investors looking into going in on some deals with him but nothing is set in stone yet. They are some pretty big names and if it comes about then it could certainly be big. Im guessing that he will wait until the new mayor takes office before anything big start back up but the groundwork is already being laid. Look for some commercial development to go up along HWY 72 and possibly even on Veterans Blvd.
