It is the same old story over and over and over and over again!!!

Don't these pampered college football players have anywhere to go other than to clubs and bars? They seem to reach legal drinking age and then seemingly are driven by irrestible forces to gather at places where high-proof spirits are wont to be poured freely, partake of same, and then get involved in violent episodes involving fisticuffs or, in worse cases, firearms.

SUGGESTION: Make it a condition of any grant-in-aid (so-called "athletic scholaship," that has everything to do with athletics and little to do with scholarship) that the recipient is prohibited from entering on the premises of any bar, lounge, club or other establishment where the prevailing business is the sale of alcoholic beverages--under penalty of loss of the grant-in-aid upon violation of this condition. There is just too much of this immature boozing around by these youthful, fuzzy-brained jocks and it is too much of a distraction and a disadvantage to the purposes of college athletics to permit this chronic problem to continue!

Here is a link to a story on this silly business at UT:

Check this excerpt:

"It was reported earlier Friday that six Tennessee players had been arrested in reference to the incident, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. Myles, a sophomore defensive back, was charged with assault, resisting arrest and evading arrest, while Da'Rick Rogers, a highly-touted incoming freshman receiver, was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, per the paper citing the Knoxville Police Department."

The "highly-touted" Da'Rick Rogers is a freshman. That being the case, it is unlikely that he was even of legal drinking age (21 years old), although it is, of course, possible that it took Da'Rick more than the average time required to get through grade school and high school. If Da'Rick is indeed found likely to have participated in the beating of a police officeer, he should be tried for assault. The club owner reportedly excused these jock jerks from paying a cover charge, one more example of jockidolatry that is rampant in this land!

Legal drinking age or not, the coach could make it a condition of their scholarships, couldn't he?

Baby Dooley has a chance to set the tone for his tenure there right now. Remove these players, find some kids who want to play football and get an education, and tell the players that if they want to play ball at UT they have to stay out of bars.

Simple decision to make. Bars or UT?

Basically what BerernU said, plus KICK THESE GUYS OFF THE UT FOOTBALL TEAM.

Dooley knows they're eventually probably going to dump him. Why not do what is right, then? I'd rather do what is right and have that to think back on after they throw me over for someone else, than to have bent over backward to please people and still get booted.

Do y'all think Dooley is a place-holder until they find someone better (shades of Shula?) or do you think UT is really committed to him?

Dooley does have a chance to set the tone here. Da'Rick Rogers was the prize of the recruiting class so we'll see.

I think UT is taking a wait and see approach with Dooley. Not much will be expected the first year or so but then the Hillbillies will be looking for results. I think Patterson of TCU would have been a great hire in that spot.
