"U.S. businesses are being destroyed faster than they’re being created

The American economy is less entrepreneurial now than at any point in the last three decades. That's the conclusion of a new study out from the Brookings Institution, which looks at the rates of new business creation and destruction since 1978.

Not only that, but during the most recent three years of the study -- 2009, 2010 and 2011 -- businesses were collapsing faster than they were being formed, a first. Overall, new businesses creation (measured as the share of all businesses less than one year old) declined by about half from 1978 to 2011."

The article shows businesses closing all over the nation, not just in the blue states.  The administration's anti-business regulations, taxes and attitudes are causing businesses to fail faster than new ones can open.   BTW, Brookings is considered a liberal think tank.

No immediate pattern emerges from the state-level geography, but one thing is worth nothing. For kicks I tried to correlate the drops in new businesses in each state with the states' scores on the Tax Foundation's 2014 State Business Tax Climate Index. There was no significant relationship one way or the other. For example, New York, which showed the lowest decrease in new businesses, actually scored dead last in the Tax Foundation's ranking. Wyoming had one of the largest declines, even though it ranked first in the Tax Foundation's report.

At the very least, the Brookings findings strongly suggest that when it comes to luring new businesses to a given state, there are a lot more factors at play than straightforward calculations of corporate tax rates.

That is from the articles you posted. It said that it doesn't have much to do with tax rates. I for one believe that all the debt that is accrued by people when they go to college plays a VERY big role in why people aren't starting new businesses. People are afraid to do anything because of the insane amounts of debt everyone has.

May well be a contributing factor. Federal government's continuing increase of student loans over the decades bid up what colleges could charge.  When I attended, one could go to UNA and work part time to pay the tuition.

The point you emphasized shows entrepreneurial enterprises are not growing -- whether from the young or old.

No doubt about it dire; bush was well on his way to putting all business lights out as your graph shows.

Thanks to Obama for stopping the slide in to a bankrupt society.

You repugs are still in death throes trying to revive the murderous attacks on America by not passing Obama’s budget which includes stimulus that would salvage these businesses.

The driving force behind the repug felonies is a hate for blacks. You won’t admit it but it’s true.

The repugs are adamant that ignorance on their own part should remain a virtue and it should not be wasted but channeled to imbeciles like gowdey or justice roy moore.

Hey dumbo, the Republican Party was created to stop slavery. It's the Dems that continue to keep the black man down by encouraging them not to work. Why work when you can sit home in your government housing, eat food stamp meals, and talk on your Obama phone? It's eutopia for those that have been trained to be lazy by the party that depends heavily on their vote.

SO QUIT PLAYING THE RACE CARD, IT'S GETTING REALLY OLD!!!

Old Squirrelly Dawg has no idea how to interpret a graph.  Why doesn't that surprise me!  The percentage of enterprises less than one year old was in decline for three decades, which precedes Bush by a number of years.  The percentage of firms dissolving remained rather constant since 1990.  Then, rose steadily and sharply since Obama became president.

Lefties, may you have a liberal accountant and a progressive to prepare your taxes.  After which, you will require a public defender.
