"We're very excited to add a player like Janorris Jenkins," coach Terry Bowden said. "He is certainly one of the best cornerbacks in the country and we're happy that he chose to come to UNA to finish his career."

Yea Coach Bowden we are so privileged to get a druggie that can run the ball to come to our humble little UNA -- he's a great asset and role model do drugs, get arrested -- even get dismissed from your current team, but just wait there will be a desperate coach somewhere that will call you and you still get to play all the sports and you get a free ride at that so you can still use your funds to buy dope all you want.  And then you wonder why there is not more support for UNA's decisions..........

Jenkins, of Pahokee, Fla., was issued a notice to appear on a charge alleging possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. He has a court date of May 12.

Jenkins was arrested on the same charge Jan. 24, when police found him with less than 20 grams of marijuana in the bathroom of a Gainesville nightclub. Jenkins accepted a plea agreement with the state attorney's office on that charge and was ordered to pay court costs of $316.

Jenkins also was arrested in June 2009 on misdemeanor affray charges after being involved in a fight and fleeing police. He agreed to a deferred prosecution agreement on that charge and was placed on six months' probation.

On June 1, 2009, Jenkins was arrested near a bar by Gainesville Police for fighting and resisting arrest after punching a man in the head around 2 AM. Police were forced to use a taser on Jenkins after fighting escalated. When asked why the fight started, Jenkins told police it was because he thought someone was going to steal the gold chain around his neck

To be fair, and only time will tell, but I haven't heard of any trouble coming out of the other second/third chance players that have come to UNA. Sometimes the big time players are led to believe that they are so special (been told that day one on the peewee field) and need a nice demotion and trip to Florence, Alabama for a dose of reality to straighten them up.

Humm.....wonder where Bowden will get his players when we move into Division I?  UNA's appeal will decrease when the guys, kicked off other teams, have to sit out a year to play........nope, they won't be coming to UNA.  Yep, good luck recruiting against "real" Division I schools.  UNA will becomse he team everybody wants to play on homecoming..............

UNA is apparently attempting to become the University of Miami of the Tennessee Valley with all of these street thugs being recruited for the football team.  I wonder what degree of liability UNA will shoulder when one of these imported street thugs commits an offense against a citizen of our community?  I also understand that two of UNA's imports are currently on State Probation transferred from other states' felony probation status.  Go Team!

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!  Pffft...I'm glad UNA is moving to D1...I'd rather go see them get beaten by MTSU than read about them beating Pine Branch Normal School in some obscure Arkansas county.

Wah wah about taking schollies from local players and tuition going up.  So UNA is here to support No Football Player Left Behind?  If they wanna play for UNA when they go D1, get better or walk on.  Tuition was going up anyway, at least now there will be something you can point your finger at and say, "Aha!  Now I know what they're doing with my money!"

I'm all for Jenkins and whoever else they can bring in if he helps UNA win.  Bring the "thugs" in by the truckload!  Seriously.

I had a chance meeting with a former player at UNA.....just graduated this past year....a starter, and a big-time player.....I asked him about the mood in the dressing room when D1 players are brought in to play in front of players already in the program......his answer...."The players are very disheartened.....team chemistry suffers a blow."  He was unaffected by others moving in....he was good enough to maintain his position, yet he saw and heard how it affected his team mates.  Bowden is not good for this program, and a D1 move would be catastrophic.....

UNA will still compete in the Gulf South Conference at least this year.

Regarding the transfer of the young man from the University of Florida, UNA has for a long time brought in transfers with trouble from the past.  In all honesty, some of them seem to change their ways in a new environment, and some of them don't change their ways in a new environment.  Let's pray for them all.

Did Mad American mean to say that he thinks UNA should go back to D-two ?   or D-1 ?

To win games, it's necessary to have skilled players and a team with a good morale and chemistry.  It is a delicate balance.  But Good Luck to the Lions !      (May God Bless our President and the United States of America and the whole world too)
