This is how you turn lemons into lemonade:

Subaru is in the process of a $1.5 million update to transform the property to the Subaru brand from the previous Suzuki brand that was there.

Wirtz says in addition to hiring a local architect on the project, Subaru hired Wichita's Key Construction as its contractor. He says Key then hired Hi-Tech Interiors, a local nonunion firm, to do a small portion of drywall work.

In response, the Carpenters union now has people manning a "Shame on Subaru of Wichita" sign on an easement in front of the dealership.

The dealership's response:

well naw Kenny, unions are not in the business to be competitive with sweat-shop minimum wages.

Their business is to provide skills so the businesses produce the quality product or service. Everything else falls in place with a  quality product or service including profit and happiness for all.

I've worked in a union and know that's not completely true.  I've seen journeymen pipefitters who could not bend tubing and wrapped the compression side threads of compression fittings with teflon tape on many, many jobs.  I've seen similar issues with other crafts as well, and it seems widespread.  To increase membership and dues, many unions are organizing people off the street and allowing them to bypass the training, which makes them no different in skill than anybody else.  The problem with unions is you can't get rid of the bad, and there's plenty of bad.  I've seen it time and time again, so you can't BS me on this.

hoob, I cannot take your word for this being anything other than the exception, not the rule.

I will agree with you that  permitting non-trained off the street is a bad thing. At the present Obama wants to spend money in training crafts through the union but the tbeepugs are stupid and cannot see the importance of training simply because he is black and wants to combat inequality.

Had a group of union pipefitters bend 1/2" hard drawn copper tubing on an instrument panel using their knees.  Wouldn't have been so noticible if they hadn't done the entire panel that way.  We ended up having to redo it for them.

I've also seen them use compression fittings without the ferrules, they did however use dope on the threads, lol.

All of them "highly" trained by the union.

sorry hoob, I don't believe a highly trained fitter did that. That is a tbeepug talking point. Are you an owner of a rat company by chance? or possibly a kissazz individual contractor for some utility taking home a fat check at the expense of cheap labor that likely would bend tubing with a knee?

Why pay some union guy $20 an hour to hang dry wall when can pay someone else $12 an hour to do it?

Nope, it was a union plant utilizing union contractors.  Don't care if you believe it or not, it happened and I know this because I was one of the people who had to go behind them and clean up the mess messes.

The only problem I have with unions is the bad workers are protected.  There is no differentiating between the top performers and the bottom, everybody has to be treated the same.  It's a bad system as it is.

Prove to who? You?  Who cares what you believe.  It happened, I know it happened, I saw it with my own two eyes, my own two hands fixed some of the problems, that's all the proof I need.  Why would I be jealous of shoddy workmanship?  I'm in an engineering association now, but at the time I WAS in the union.  Matter of fact, right now at this very moment I'm wearing an IBEW Local 175 tee shirt a buddy gave me on a job a few years back.

You know as well as I those who do shoddy work are protected and it's swept under the rug.  There won't be any evidence because it was fixed years ago and nobody got fired because that type of work ethic is allowed.  Everybody gets the same treatment, period.

Well why does your conversation always bash union workers but never mention workers of the general population?

Listen hoob I am one person you cannot fool. I know firsthand what goes on in the commercial to the industrial world regarding labor, their skills, production and overhead.

The industries and retail I am presently involved with are non-union.  The main gripe by owners includes: “they are too slow”, “they lay out of work”, “they borrow money”, “they steal,’’ “they quit and go to work for my competition”, “they make mistakes” and on and on the complaints go. Then here you come running down unions who at least have training programs, don’t allow members to hop jobs, work for different wages, lay out of work, be mistreated or work for a non-living wage.

It’s an intrinsic property of repubtbees to just gripe about anyone else who makes a penny. You are obviously someone who the BA kept on the bench because fellow workers or supervision didn’t want to work with you.

Fess up.
