Bamma shine: Take note: I have never used illegal drugs in my life, and worked in a unionized plant for 31 yrs, and NEVER ONCE saw anyone use drugs (other then prescribed medicines).(we had our fair share of DRUNK's as at any job site)
This Generalizing (on your part) about AMERICAN Union workers being Drugatic's and LAZY is nothing but anti-UNION absolute BULL-S--- rehtoric on your part and is not going to change anyones mind. GO AHEAD Mc.DONALDS, and WALLY WORLD LOVE PEOPLE LIKE YOU.
Sure you and some others maybe the exception. Bama Sunshine is correct in what she said though. I know personally some alcoholics and drug users that brag about getting messed up on the job site. They are union workers, electricians, pipe fitters, and boiler makers.
That is a fact not a generalization. I also know that they have been to arbitration hearings about there drug use. The union help them to keep there jobs after they got caught stealing and getting intoxicated on the job.
Sorry YO, I just don't believe that at all, unless you are talking about a small company who hires a few Union members who KNOW how to do the job.. Otherwise, there ARE ABSOLUTELY NO DRUGS at all on my site, and NO UNION Affiliated with us would EVER uphold a druggie or a pusher... NEVER would, or could that happen... never... and I have been a member of a Union, like I said for 27 years... and counting... Been MANY places, seen MANY FIRED for trying to get away with drugs, and the Union did NOT back them, not one single time.
Drugs have NO place on the jobsite, and there is ZERO tolerance about that where I work... and the ZERO tolerance is definitely been tested and won .... every time!!!!
well, maybe not on your jobsite, but,I am living proof that on numerous jobs, even TVA hydro plants, brothers protect brothers even in drugs.
If a 'brother' or 'sister' is so selfish to not want to be clean and safe on the jobsite, then why are you protecting them? THEY should be protecting YOU from their inability to function...
There are many people I work with and have worked with in the past and still do when they are in town that I like very much,... consider them great friends,... but when any one of them uses drugs and goes to a jobsite and EXPECT to be taken care of, that is just selfish and wrong... anyone who does that is an enabler to a drug problem.
HYDRO?? That is a dangerous job right from the start, and there are people willing to "protect brothers"... What if someone gets killed... What if they get caught in a gate in the wheelpit? What if they get YOU caught there? Or do you all just allow your 'brother' to go to the draft tube to sleep it off?
It is pretty dangerous to even think that people could work on a vertical unit and not worry that their "brother" is stoned... I am in shock about that!!!!
