US should weigh war on terrorism tax - Lieberman:

Sen. Joseph Lieberman said on Tuesday that Congress should consider a tax to fund the U.S.-declared war on terrorism and reduce the need to cut domestic programs to pay for security spending.

For once Lieberman is right. If we had to actually pay for this war, it would stop tomrrow.

That's the trouble with us Americans. We want all of this good stuff, but we don't want to pay for it.

Politicians know this so they borrow and print money to fund all sorts of BS.

The average American is cluless to the fact he owes about $150,000 dollars, courtesy of his rulers, and it is growing like wildfire.

I say again, "Follow the money".

*edit* that 150 grand is for every man woman and child.

Good point, and Joe may have one because you start talking tax, thats a no no with rich republicans. very greedy people!
The unfunded liability assumes no funds will come in at all. Social Security may only collect 90 percent of pay out in the future, but budgeters assume 100 percent unfunded, because they don't have cash in hand.

To cure Social Security for next 50 years:

1. Index future retirements from 67 to 67 and six months.
2. Index early retirement from 62 to 63.
3. Change annual increase from inflation plus one percent to inflation plus 0.9 percent.
4. In 2011 or 2012, increase the cap in earning $10,000 per year until it reaches about $25,000 and then increase it only by present inflation factor (about $1,000 per year).

Relatively painless, but politicians are too cowardly to do it.
