Toronto cops nabbed the suspected driver who plowed into a group of people on a crowded city street Monday afternoon, leaving nine people dead. 16 people have been injured, Deputy Chief Peter Yuen said.

Police confirmed to Fox News the arrest of the suspect, which came just minutes after news of the incident broke. "The van involved in multiple pedestrians stuck in the Yonge and Finch area of Toronto has been located and the driver arrested," Toronto police tweeted.

Cops initially said eight to 10 people were hit near Yonge Street and Finch Avenue just before 1:30 p.m., but they later clarified it was too early to confirm the number of injuries. A nearby hospital tweeted that it took in seven patients.

After striking the pedestrians, the driver sped off, CBC reported.

The extent of the injuries at the scene is unknown; however, photos from the site of the collision showed pedestrians attempting to help people on the ground and multiple bodies covered by sheets.

A witness who identified himself as Nick said he was studying when he saw a truck “flash by” in the area. He said he “witnessed a few people pass away in front” of him as others screamed.

“[The driver] was definitely in control of what he was doing…he knew what he was doing,” Nick told Global News.

Alex Shaker, who witnessed the incident, said the van was speeding down the street before it mounted the curb and plowed into people.

“He started going down on the sidewalk and crumbling down people one by one,” Shaker told CTV. “He just destroyed so many people’s lives. Every single thing that got in his way.”

A worker at a gym in a building next to the site of the incident told Fox News that employees were told to stay inside as first responders tended to the scene.

Desperation met stupidity on the corner of bad luck and despair, and the democratic party was born.

Where's the OutRage!!!! These Vans have got to GO!!! Killing People Left & Right- Jumping on Side Walks - Its happening Over & Over. They MUST BE BANNED. Why aren't our Political Leaders seeing What is Happening!!  BOYCOTT VAN AUTOMAKERS!!

Sounds Silly doesn't it... When we don't address the True Root of the Problem..

Can you Say....Mental Case??

I bet they knew who had the van. Where it was rented. What state it was rented. A copy of the Drivers Licenses.

I'm guessing, since they're all willing to make such fun of cars killing people, they're surely willing to register guns just like we register every car. Maybe even a gun skills test , just like cars. Even transfer titles to guns to the new owners, within 10 days, just like we do cars. If it's so fun to compare guns and cars, lets treat them the same. Sounds great with me.

sure everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just not forcing everyone to follow it.   We aren't making fun of Hogg so much as democrat media that uses a questionable high school student and a **** star as their poster children to get their way.  By the way when I bought my gun, they did a back ground check and registered my serial number.

Sorry you democrats missed the point here, the challenge is stupid, crazy or just plain evil people not the tool the used.    Sorry we don't make things simple for you to understand.

I've noticed the choice of motors is a Van or full size pick up.
Motor scooters are still big in most Asian countries except Chicago.

I would lean toward a Mail Jeep, delivers speed plus looks rather
harmless which makes the added machete the big surprise...

I used to see four or five on one scooter in Nam.  South Koreans take it to the max -- six or seven.

Okay.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) 2016 data shows 37,461 people were killed in 34,436 motor vehicle crashes, an average of 102 per day.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...rate_in_U.S._by_year

In 2013, there were ... 33,636 deaths due to "injury by firearms."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...in_the_United_States.

So when it comes to reducing fatalities, how's all that  register guns just like we register every car. Maybe even a gun skills test , just like cars. Even transfer titles to guns to the new owners, within 10 days, just like we do cars.  working for you?

Maybe we should do background checks on driver's license applicants.  21 years old.  Any history of mental defects ?  Indicted or convicted of crimes of violence?  Drug or alcohol abusers?  Dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces?  Legal resident?  And then, most importantly, enforce the laws on the books.

BTW, I didn't cherry pick the stats.  It's just what Wiki offered.
