Not too many times do I let a place slip up on me but somehow I missed this one. Yesterday I was talking to some friends that were talking about how they had the best pizza at this new pizza restaurant in Sheffield. They said it was located beside the Sheffield Library and the owners was from the Bronx, New York area and after my lunch, there, today I have to say it rivals the best NY Pizza that I've had and certainly is the best in the Shoals area. I'd put it right there with "I love NY Pizza" from the Atlanta area and "NY's famous Pizza" from Panama City, FL both excellent Pizza places. Another thing I liked about Vertillo is that they use the traditional (old style) pizza ovens and not the newer conveyor type ovens. I love great food and Vertillo does not disappoint.
The owners was planning to open this restaurant just North of Birmingham when they saw and ad, of all places on Craigslist, for property in Sheffield so they made a trip up here and after visiting and taking to the owner of the building decided that Sheffield was the place for their restaurant to open. I'm glad they did.
The pizza we ordered was just the traditional cheese but the medium was plenty enough for two people and I'll definitely be going back. This is one of those places that is "Worth the Trip" or worth going out of your way for. I know I'm but one opinion but everyone I've heard form say the same as I feel and that is that it is the best the area has. I was hoping to try the Cannoli as it also looked great so that's yet another reason to return, which I will.
