No idea.. maybe TD can come up with a NEWS article about it... no wait!!! That would be LOCAL news, so forget it, lol...

I, too, traveled many miles to carry my kids to the zoo when they were young.... that being said, the zoo idea just might work.. if people are willing to go so far to visit one, then they definitely would support a local one (door charges & refreshments) and save all that traveling and gas.

Uber, there would be nothing wrong with leaving it as it is.The question was just asked what now. I have no problem leaving more "green" area there. But a Zoo in the area would be an attraction for sure. Hey it would give all the retired people something to vol. to help run. Wink

themax, I love that idea...I just have a little less than 2 years, and I am thinking of hanging it up too... I think I have been here LONG enough, lol...

I will still be young enough to enjoy life, but not stuck to one place day in and day out...
I had to weigh in here, the whole problem is now that Bronner didn't get his way, the city claims to want the citizens input but when a citizen tried in vain to present a very informative and professionally illustrated idea for a theme park at the last Florence City Council work session, they were told to take their idea and sit down and shut up. Don't be fooled by the "bait and switch" that is going on. Since Bronner couldn't bully TVA, he knows he is puppetmaster of THE SHOALS and whatever is built their will be what RSA and Bronner alone want. Fortunately, they cannot get the coastline BUT that doesn't mean much after all the lawyers will get through Bronner has lined up. The fight still is on folks and those in the Shoals Enviromental Alliance isn't resting yet. Why not join us? THE DOG

If something like that was in the works, the cops could clean that up... and by the way, WHY do the cops even ALLOW that to go on in our parks? Okay, that is one of my soapbox topics, I better hush now.

Let me first state, my wife and I are avid campers. I am on my second MH. We started when we first married 31 yrs ago. We generally try to stay within 200 miles or so, unless it is vacation time.

We have camped twice at Veterans.

The first time our grandchildren were with us. A park ranger came by and I asked him about the problem. (believe me, it is WELL KNOWN)

He tryed to explain it away as almost under control. THEN...went on to explain that they were know to be...HARMLESS. Hey...I'm not worried about being physically harmed...its what my grandchildren might be exposed to.

The second time, just my wife and I...on business. Most likely the last time...too bad... it is a nice place.
Yea, Mott something we both like. I'd die for a new 40' Alfa. They are pretty new building class A's 5th wheels for a long time. But man was the lay out ever thought out by someone who had spent a lot of time in a class A. My brother-in-law bought one last year. Drove his Dolfin to the factory in Cal. to get it. The "see ya" model. 84" leather couch. 2 matching recliners. The galley layout is great. They even thought of having an outside access to empty the garbage can. I get fired up just thinking about it.

I'd die for ANYTHING new. I've got an older model Holiday Rambler class c. I had a class a...didn't like driving it.

Some of my fondest memories were in a tent on the ground though. I have had about everyting but a fiver through the years. For some reason or another I have been wanting a PU again, wife doesn't Frowner.

Camping has really changed in the last few years. On major holidays reservations are a must. We have already made some. Point Mallard is back off the list...Changed their reservation policy AGAIN...only 75 sites allawed to be reserved this year...all gone the first day.
For a short trip, Elvis Presley Lake is beautiful. Very Very Quite kind of off the beaten path. Has a 300 and something lake, nice paved pads and like I said gets hardly any use. You could there a week and never see another camper pull in. gotta run, check it out sometimes It's off veteran Dr. east side out in the country.

Where are the tough guys these day's? The bathrooms in the parks where the queers congregate would be a perfect place ROLL them to make money. QUOTE]

Uh... They grew up and got a life.
So many ideas, so much debate....some more hair-brained than others. I have yet to hear one single proposal to simply enhance what is already there. Why not spend the millions already allocated for development of that area on making it the most incredible public park in the entire state? There are ample shopping opportunities 2 minutes down the street....has anybody looked at what the objective should be?? Super hotel, super golf course (like it or not, it HAS succeeded....I personally didn't think that it would; I was wrong, very wrong), super convention facilities, fantastic eating and shopping opportunities a mere mile down the SAME street....what purpose should the park serve?? IMHO, it should serve to entertain the people staying in the hotel/visiting our area and the local residents as well. Why not make the disk golf course the finest in the Southeast? Believe it or not, disk golf is an established national association. Why not recruit regional and national competitions? This would satisfy the lodging tax-watching-only-measure-of success-we can crow about Tourism boards.

Why not build the biggest, most intricate, craziest playground in the Southeast region? Add in a simple ampitheatre and host outdoor music events every week there......already being done in downtown with great success. Outdoor movies, etc. TVA is happy, RSA is happy, the people visiting our area are happy, the kids (and parents) in our area are happy.....problem solved?

Geez, but who am I?

What about the meth heads, they are still roaming the streets?
I here ya Mott....but since you enjoy camping..try the TVA campground a Mallard Creek..they have several water sites that are really nice, I work for TVA and have worked with the land management dept. directly several times..The campground has caretakers that really keep up the place. And I can promise you that they will keep the homo's out. The campground is seasonal I think it is open between March or April until October or November. They have nice facilities(bathrooms) the only thing is they do not have sewer hookups. But do have water and elect.

Wow, I love that idea!!! TD.... COME ON IN and do a story idea on this!!!
Most of the tough guys are now dressing like snoop Dog and getting more stupid than ever. Television has molded their brains in favor of feminist and rap culture. The old bullies are now wearing dresses and hanging out at our city park bathrooms or acting like dumb rapper types.

Where are the kids that used to play army and have battles?

The likelyhood of that ever happening is nil; there would be very little $$ to made under the table. I've heard proposals for a working/functioning Renaissance village, a zoo, a water park, etc....anyone ever consider the costs involved in maintaining those ventures? Furthermore, this area cannot even properly market itself as a destination, so how successful do you think any of these 'proposed' attractions would be? A commercial real estate development?? HEY NOW, that's the way to go, right??!! Wink Millions of dollars flying around....all sorts of local goobers could profit from that deal.

I have said in these forums over and over....Follow the $$ and be enlightened.
Well did all of you block me? I love most, like some and block other (Mott the Hopple and the rest) It doesn't matter what we type on this board, until some action is taken like the members of the Shoals Eviromental Alliance did with hundreds of letter to TVA about the land grab that Bronner was first trying on all TVA Shoals land then Veterans Park, it doesn't matter! PEOPLE, you need to realize that the Florence City Council is bought and paid for by Bronner, the TD has VESTED interest with millions of dollars to their parent company NYT through the publication of Golf Digest Magazine and All of the above are counting on the apathy of the citizens to roll over as they did when the two cent gas tax was thrusted upon this area without public vote or comment! WAKE UP! THE DOG
