I doubt if the cops around the Shoals even know this.. everytime they use a Taser they set up the cities and counties for big fat lawsuits.. the best part of a lawsuit are the punitive damages.. and this would be a clear case where punitive damages are in order.. Tasing without the required federal license

Ah...I thought so. Just go ahead and admit you lied and get it over with Wink
It’s not the weapon, it’s the user. There’s no telling how many suspects and officers too have been saved from serious injury by the use of less than lethal force including Tasers. But we need to address the minority who abuse certain weapons [Rodney King] and allow the weapons themselves to remain in the hands of the majority who use good judgement.

There are packs of headhunters from DPS internal affairs, FBI civil affairs, DJ, and goodness knows the ACLU...if there’s a problem with excessive force, it’s going to be identified and dealt with. As it should be.

But from my experience dealing with various civil affairs units, based solely on that tape and what I read in the newspaper and saw on TV, there is not conclusive evidence there was excessive force.

Disagree all you want, but it’s not me you have to convince. And it's not the guy nor members of this forum. I think you'll find the numbers for those agencies in your phone book. Convince them of how right you are based on what you saw and read.

And Hollow, if you’re still stuck on the idea that someone is old at 49, you’ve got some surprises coming when you grow up.
Hollow I appreciate your argument. I disagree with you though. First your information is not accurate. Tasers are considered "less than lethal" as opposed to "non lethal." They can cause death but there must usually be an accompanying factor such as drug use, excited delirium, health problems, etc. I have been tased and I know how it feels. That being said the Taser is a useful tool like all the other items on the belt. It has great potential to be misused but then again so does OC and a baton. My philosophy is that I use it when necessary. Mostly I just use my hands. I've said it once and I'll say it again. Policing is not a pretty profession. It has ugliness that you won't believe. Its just better for some to see it like ozzy and harriett.
Some people think its Andy and Barney Fife. LEO's and Firemen do an overall thankless job for half what its worth because most of them love it. Yes, there are some that should not be LEOs, but at the same time there are folks taht should not be Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers, etc etc. The fact that certain folks pick one profession and attack it by constantly digging up dirt on those in that professions tells me that their problem isnt with the corruption, its with the profession itself......
I ain't lying about nothing.. I would advise you to look into it and get your people certified.. especially since you have now been made aware..
what are you going to do when Obama's greedy admin finds out about the non compliance and decides to levy some big fat fines on your donut eating fat fannies?
like I said, I just did you one hell of a favor, and you call me a liar and insult me? this is why all you cops are in fail status with the general public.. you think you are above and beyond the regular populace.. what are you going to do when they get tired of your crap? tase them? LOL

Like I said, that is just one way to stop the abuse of tasers without getting rid of them. Personally though I'd rather see them gone all together.

Tasers like any tool on a police officers belt can be beneficial for the apprehension of a person. Hopefully that apprehension will be conducted safely and swiftly without harm to any persons involved. And also, as CHT and WH point out so fervently, officers sometimes can and do misuse their authority.

But, I personally know of an incident where a FPD officer responded to a domestic fight in progress involving a husband and wife in a fight. The wife had obtained a baseball bat and was swinging it at her husband's head. Clearly, I think we all would agree that a baseball bat to the head can be considered deadly force. Officers are allowed to meet and exceed by one degree on the use of force continuum. So any responding officer or officers would be justified in using deadly force on this female for swinging it at her husband's head. The first officer on scene observed this female swinging at her husband's head and chose to deploy his Taser instead of shooting and possibly killing the woman.

Moral of the story: Although tasers can possibly injure of cause a death of an individual and also can possibly be misused by some A-hole cop, the VAST majority of the time they are used properly and are proven to SAVE lives.

There is NO Federal law that requires LEO to have a 'Federal Certification' to use a Taser. Why? Because Tasers do NOT fall under the Federal Firearms Act! How do I know this? I looked it up as well. Want a link? Your the Google Pro so have at. Now with that said... every officer that is issued a Taser DOES have a certification to use it, but it is given by a certified Taser instructor which is trained by Taser International. Also, any non-LEO that purchases a Taser MUST go through the same certification class as LEO and recieve a Cert and send the cert. number to Taser Int. before their Taser will become activated. How do I know this? I'm a Taser instructor and have been for years. I get the latest updates from Taser Int. about every 3 months. This includes any 'new' laws that may affect Taser user. Your 'Federal Taser Certification' law just refers to FEDERAL OFFICERS that use a TASER.

Thanks for taking the time to explain that, but you'll never convince ol' CHT. Roll Eyes

So, where did you get your Federal certification, since you have "several tasers"? Big Grin
