whenever I view the times daily front page, my CPU runs at 60% use or more.

if i ENABLE the noscript, it does not.

i have replicated this problem with firefox 2.0.0.10 in linux mint daryna (ubuntu 7.10 basically) and firefox 2.0.0.11 on windows XP

linux: 1.8ghz/1gb ram/only firefox+system monitor running
xp: 3ghz/512mb/firefox+pidgin running.

Don't have that problem with anything else on the computer, just TD.

Yeah, the entire site is abhorrently slow. Please, TD, as people move form paper to electronic media, they expect results fast. This is broken and has been for years.

well until then, its not a problem with the java layer, its a problem with the coder.

think, if my two decent computers stumble, how about these people with sub 1ghz, 256mb of ram, and tons of spyware are doing?

they are not, another blow for local news.

its insane to have something live when it doesn't work correctly.

if you use firefox, go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 for the noscript plugin

it will have all scripts disabled by default, you will need to enable the ones you need on a site-by-site basis until it learns

i also strongly reccomend getting adblock plus ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 ) and subscribing to the easylist server (the option will come up on the first run after you install adblock and restart firefox)

not in this case, it is defently the scripts TD are forcing our browsers to run.

good thing there are tools to block bad coding.

Thanks, I agree , it is the scripts probably the advertisements. It has caused my Firefox to crash a few times.
I guess forcing a bunch of pop-up adds, and adds that flash and move around is more important than the actual news to these people.

I quit reading the TD news. For Lawrence County, the Decatur Daily delivers twice the news, twice as fast on my old dial-up.

I swear I have played a couple of hands of solitare while waiting.

By the time I load the TD, it is no longer news... it's history.

Even when I am on the TD forum, I disable Outlook.
