It would be nice if that was true. But it is not. Whether your here legally or not, if your skin is brown you will be treated like a second class citizen. Employers will shy away from hiring anyone with brown skin, landlords will shy away from renting to them and taxis will not pick them up. They will become second class citizens REGARDLESS of their immigration status.
As for this being a job creating bill. I personally know of 4 businesses who have already found locations in more business friendly states and are planning on relocating. I know of a number of others who are looking to relocate. One business imparticular will be putting 146 American Alabamians out of work when the relocate. Business see tax increases in the future to pay for this law and the lawsuits surrounding it. When you consider that along with the stigma of racism businesses in this state have always had to deal with when doing business across state lines which will only be amplified, plus the burden of additional bureaucracy and jeopardy a business will face, its not worth staying here. Not to mention the lost revenue businesses will face losing all their Hispanic patrons. Alabama can forget about attracting businesses to this area, IT WONT HAPPEN.
The part of the bill that states that students (even AMERICAN BORN students) have to report their parents immigration status. This is supposed to help them track the expense of educating these kids. However, many of their parents (most), regardless of their immigration status DO PAY TAXES and never get refunds. Alabamians will make up the difference in revenue in tax hikes and those tax hikes will have to cover the immplementation of this law and the lawsuits associated with it.
This law is racism at its worst. Its wrong.
All Alabama had to do was design a bill mandate E-Verify for employment, social services and medical services. Thats it. Thats all it would have took. It still would have cost Alabama jobs and businesses, but at least the racist stigma wouldn't have been there.
Be ready Alabama. Many of these immigrants have got mortgages, three months will not be enough time for them to sell their homes and property. Forclosures are coming and your property values will fall, your taxes will go up, and your jobs will evaporate.
