No one party can please all my beliefs. And I bet that everyone thinks the same. Why label anyone as a democrate or republican? Just look at the person and if they are "politics only" count them out. Look at their voting record and see if they have the same beliefs that you do. IMO I don't believe the right wing- left wing bunch of nonsence. There has been way to much of name calling in this forum.Refering to one as a right winger or a left winger.
Why can't we cut out the party BS and just look at the issues?

I AGREE 100% In a post earlier about what would I invent , I would invent a way to get rid of all parties AND the news media polls and let common sense people vote for the common senseable person.
Alot of people don't vote for beliefs , they just go by the polls or the name.
Good Post, my friend!

Or at the very LEAST vote 'em all out, get fresh blood in Washington!!!

Let all our Senators and Congressmen that they will get NO more votes because of their records!!! Wouldn't you just LOVE to see their faces if thousands upon thousands of letters went to our representatives saying NO MORE!!! NO MORE VOTES FOR YOU!!!! What a pleasing thought!

I might just stay home, or write in a candidate, in 2008.

In the past I have felt the same way, but in the end I've always voted. I think you should too.
Not voting is simply not an option. A lot of sacrifices were made for me to have the right to vote, I wouldn't dare stay home or wasting a vote without knowing who's running. More and more people seem to be taking an interest in the Libertarian party. I've read about them, some things I agree with, some I'm a little hesitant about. I'd still love to see a serious third party challenger.
Some time back I was asked what got me interested in Alabama Politics, and I mentioned a friend, Ken, who had brought the state to my attention.

Well, there is another Alabaman who I talk to frequently, and he is active in the political system in your state. He is still on this side of the Big Pearly, so I am not going to give him a name, but his explanation of how the Alabama Primary election process works looks like the Perfect solution to the problems in our system.

You folks have an open primary system. When you go to the polls for the momination process you get to select from candidates of one party or another. YOU have the system to make a third party effort work, but you have to work it.

The Alabama Congressional Delegation led the coalition that created the Washington Monument. The previously approved plan was NOT to your liking, and you folks got it changed. (for the better in my opinion) Alabama has also had a very powerful effect in other policy issues in the Congress. YOU PEOPLE HAVE MUCH MORE POWER THAN YOU SEEM AWARE OF. Use it.

Would that be the same Ken "Barrister" that you and I have talked about?

If so, he was a whizz at politics, and he would be behind Hillary... he ALWAYS said if a woman ever ran, she had his vote... and with all the Military background he had, I respect that!!!

Sure Is, and You are right about the Woman for President thing, but I think he would have been more supportive of IMPEACHING BUSH AND CHENEY AND PUTTING NANCY PELOSI IN THE OVAL OFFICE.

That is your perrogitive B'man!!!! Only YOU can decide that, but you have to know that IF you do that, your vote will virtually NOT count for anything. Protest votes went out a long time ago, when they realized that they were cutting off their noses to spite their faces....

I LOVE Nancy Pelosi!!! She is one brilliant woman!!!! But no matter, there isn't time to impeach him and Cheney, so we are stuck with them... what scares me the most is what they will do while in the LAME DUCK stage... they CAN and WILL do a lot of damage.

People underestimate Hillary though, they think she is one thing, but she has proven she is quite the smart, capable, extremely intelligent candidate... She may surprise the entire Nation!!!
The sad thing is, it's a catch-22 situation. A lot of people won't vote independent because "they don't have a chance". They "don't have a chance" because people will not vote for them. Instead of voting for the best person, they'll vote for the best person who has a chance to win. I've only voted for one Rep.-Dem. in the last 30 years. I've been told several times "your wasting your vote". But voting for someone you don't agree with is "wasting your vote".

Oh yes!!! Thank you so much!!! I am tired of being labeled "DEMOCRAT" simply because I am not happy with our current administration.... Actually, I voted for Ford against Carter, and Reagan... but hmmmmmmmmmmm...... I am labeled Democrat!!! Weird huh? lol Big Grin

I am not happy with the Republicans right now, I feel like they have taken our rights as Americans away, and I don't like what has happened in the last 4-5 years... but, that is my right to feel that way...

I did NOT vote Bush in 2004, and I do not regret that one single bit...

I am a person, an American who is registered to vote, and I will vote according to my belief's at the time... it is way too early to tell..

That is real smart. People who don't know the issues and what candidates stand for should be rufused the right to vote. In afct, testing should be done (including mental capacity tests) before you are granted the right to vote.

I think you might would be surprised at how much people really do know about things if you tested them. I am glad however that this type of thinking is not allowed thanks to the Constitution...regardless, every citizen is allowed ONE vote -- that ONE VOTE counts -- you use it or you lose it...if you don't vote you are not doing your part in our society....

I'm just curious though, if you found someone who didn't pass the test to vote...would you then start the process to put them away in an asylum or something? they have proven themselves to be incompetent by not passing the test so they apparenlty can't be a functioning member of society -- they've proven they don't deserve to be "free citizens"...what other repurcussions would your idea have on the rest of society and the rest of their lives?

Yes, I know this was a bait-type statement to get a response, but if you truly believe this I would like to understand why you have come to that conclusion. Your statement goes back to what others have said -- "just because you disagree with me then your opinion is wrong" -- I'm just wanting to understand your side.

dogmaster, that is the Louisiana system. Non Partisan primary, and run offs till someone gets a majority. It can and sometimes does get messy, but it works.
