WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. - Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy in the case of a racial comment that was made over the public-address system at a Walmart store in southern New Jersey.
Police said Saturday the Atlantic County teenager was arrested Friday on charges of harassment and bias intimidation. They say he's been released to the custody of his parents.

It's not that hard to hijack a store's PA system. I've heard it happen a few times in stores I've worked in but it was never anything rude.

Back in 1999, David Howard, a white mayoral aide in Washington, D.C., used the word "rhymes with piggardly" in conversation with a black official, who took offense because he felt that "rhymes with piggardly," which means miserly or cheap, was a racist term. Howard had to resign.
On a humorous note, it ends up that Howard was a homosexual and a gay rights group pressured the mayor to rehire him which he did.
