Crafts-Tire: if this is happening, it is because of poor service at the mechanics/car service department. Such as: hiring mechanics with a GED in autocrafts from the local trade-vocational school...and they put 2.5 quarts in the engine when it calls for 5 quarts. This happened to me (mechanic was fired by the time I reported it..seems he had an attitude problem).

Second, the gun department at WalMart is a joke. Scopes are junk. Rifles and shotguns they sell are low-end type. None I would want...maybe someone else, but not for me.

25 years ago during the Sam Walton era Wal-Mart carried some good guns IMO. Marlin used to make a decent rifle the .35 and .22 were good enough for me as a kid when hunting. I have not shopped their gun department in over 20 years.
The part about the guns has been a topic on some of the other forums I haunt. Walmart is scaling back on the stores that sell firearms and ammunition. The ones that sell the least numbers are going to be the first to quit selling guns and ammo. I would think the same would be true of tires/auto repair and the craft department. Although they're gonna lose some customers, it'll be a cost saving measure on their part. I buy a lot of gun/ammo stuff, but rarely buy anything from Walmart. I prefer to either buy in bulk off the internet, or from a local, small shop that I want to see stay open.

They're still making pistols...they still make the 1911 in about a dozen different flavors, and the Single Action Army. Most of them are "custom shop" guns...including the XSE 1911

VERY mistaken....see the Colt link posted.

Now, when FN closed the Winchester plant in New Haven, CT a year ago which meant production of the Model 70 bolt action rifle and the Model 94 ended, THAT brought tears to my eyes.....at least I have two Model 70's, and one a pre-64.

Colt has scaled back a bit. They took a hit in the M1911 market, and one could say in the revolver market. What irks me is that with the AWB over with (for the time being), they refused to change their AR15 line for civilians back to pre-ban config. HOWEVER, their LE division under Colt Defense produce standard M4-type rifles. BUT, they don't market the A2/A4 type rifles to civilians. BUT, a civilian can buy one IF you can find one...and the prices on those went up after the AWB lifted. Confusing? Yep, one of the problems Colt has had in recent years.

Back on topic....I think the stores that will stop selling guns are in slower areas/markets. I don't see that happening in the Shoals. If they would sell better guns, then they shouldn't have a problem.
