If you are a member of the YMCA in Florence, then I highly recommend that you do NOT use the locker room. Just come dressed to work-out and then get in your car and leave when finished. Do not bring in your wallet, a gym bag, jewelry or cash. Eventually it *will* get stolen by some low-lives that prey on the locker rooms.
Another man and I had *both* of our lockers broken into at the same time (yes, we both had locks on them). These thieves are somehow "jimmying" combination locks open, going through gym bags and taking cash from wallets. Between the two of us, the thieves took about $75, an expensive bracelet, and a credit card. Whatever their methods of getting lockers open so quickly, they are experienced and very efficient at it. These aren't just random people swiping something once in a while, they know what they're doing and do it constantly.
The man at the counter told me that thefts happen constantly around there and that even if your stuff is locked up it isn't safe. I obviously learned this the hard way, as this is the *second* time I have had my locker broken into within the past month. I guess this time I have learned my lesson, I will never use the locker room again. From now on, I will just get into my car all sweaty and go home and shower.
Apparently, one guy had $500 in cash stolen from his locker a while back (yeah, it's dumb to bring that kinda jack in a place like that). Other people are constantly complaining about thefts. Whoever is doing it has made bank.
The ironic thing is that the culprit(s) probably don't even pay any dues. The YMCA is a charitable organization, so only people who can afford to pay have to pay. I have to pay and yet my s*it gets stolen by people who get a free ride. Typical.
