I had my house broken into a few weeks ago on a Saturday night.. around 7:00-8:00 pm? Who even does that? Apparently the person has been doing this for a while around the area I live in. I live downtown florence on Sherrod. Nice neighborhood, families everywhere.. and maybe the suspect picked our house because we are four college girls? who knows and why does it matter. This has to STOP. The doors were locked but the person broke glass, stole 2 tvs, dvd player, and 2 laptops. They broke the backdoor which means they came through the back alley. It had to be more than 1 person, the flat screen weighs so much. Anyways.. I am not mad about our things being gone. Florence police are horrible. I'm sorry if you disagree but I am doing the patrol in downtown florence if you wanted to know.. I drive around trying to find this person.. I drive everynight and I do it multiple times.. Dangerous? yep.. I am a nursing student, not a cop. The cops have not been seen around our house except for the night after it happened. They are to busy hiding in the dark trying to pull over people going 5 mph over the speed limit. Every saturday after our house there has been a house break in around our area. I was told by a florence cop that the suspect walks around my neighborhood wearing a backpack, pretending to be a college student. he is a black male.. average height and weight.. and at night, he comes out after observing the different houses. So all I am asking is for someone to please help out.. if you are downtown by campus and have time, drive around..(we call it, stalking the unknown suspect). I would like some sleep but not until this person is caught.. If you know anything about other break ins I would love to hear.. so feel free! Smiler YAY for my first forum entry!

Talk to a supervisor at the PD or to the chief and see if you can request extra patrols in that area.
Be careful doing something on your own. In the meantime, you can buy these little alarms at the Dollar Tree that you stick to a door or window and it makes a very loud noise when that door or window is opened. That might be enough to scare someone off if they returned.
I didn't know about these little alarms at the dollar tree! Thanks for the info! Smiler I lived in Florence about 8 or 9 years ago and my home was broken into twice in less than 24 hours. The Florence Police were a huge help to me... I am going to have to agree with LynnBlount on this one... maybe you just got someone assigned to your case that isn't as helpful as others... try calling up to the Police Department and let them know how you are feeling and maybe it will make a difference! Good Luck! I never did get any of my things back but the man was caught and it ended up being my next door neighbor! He ended up in jail for that and probably other crimes...

I agree. Surely they will do something to help you. Good luck to you and I hope they catch this man or men. It's a shame that some people would rather steal from others than to get a job and buy what they need.
This is what the package looks like. If they don't have them at the DollarTree, I'm sure that Walmart or Lowes has them fairly cheap, also. They are really loud!! If you want it set when you are leaving, you have to turn it on and let it sound (while you open the door to go out), then it will go off when you close the door behind you and be ready to sound again if the door is reopened - so, it will go off when you open the door, also, to come in. That's the only drawback to this type of alarm. But they are affordable enough to put one one many doors/windows. They are great to turn on at night to make sure no one tries to enter your house while you are sleeping.

thank you so much for the information on the alarm system. I will go buy one asap! I am also concerned about street lights on our street. There are maybe two that I can see. If I were to walk out of my front door I can't even see the neighbors cars because it is so dark... and If you were to look down our ally you wouldnt even know it was an ally... I feel like I am being a little baby, but after 5:00 PM I can't really walk outside without feeling like someone is watching me.. if anyone knows anything just let me know! thank you once again for the ones that wrote back.. it means a lot!
