I hope that none of our forum friends were any of the people injured that occured this afternoon at the Huntsville Air Show. There were injuries, and there will be a press conference later on this afternoon. Please pray for those that were injured. I hope that it was none of our "forum friends". More details on the Huntsville TV stations.

We were there today and altho it did get rough I wouldn't have dreamed it would cause a death. We had our granchildren with us and they laughed thru the entire storm. This was a very sad day.I was shocked when they anounced that the show was over because the sun popped out beautifuly just moments after the worst of it,but of course we didn't know about the little boy until we got home.
While we were waiting for the traffic to thin out a fire truck came thru the crowd and was going around a parked car .the truck had to go along the side of a hill and started sliding towards the car,the bad thing was there was a man and child between the truck and car.The man grabbed the child and got him out of the way.The truck didn't miss them by about 2 ft.We all held our breaths.I guess even trained rescue personel make rash decisions at a time like that.Ther were almost two tragedies today.

Same here. I was there with my son and his friend. We were whooping and hollering and having a good old time as the wind picked up and pelted us with rain. It was just the standard kind of quick storm we receive here once a week or so. It wasn't a big deal.

I didn't know anyone was killed until I got back home to Florence.
I was channel 19's coverage of the event last night. I was disturbed that they seemed to be accusatory towards whoever organized this event.

They seemed to assert that the whole event should have been canceled because organizers knew there was a chance for a storm.

Wull, duh. It's summer. Every single day has a chance of a pop-up thunderstorm.
I live only about 4 miles or so from the airport, as the crow flies, so I got to see the Blue Angels up close as they flew over head many times over Lady Ann Lake. It was just awe inpsiring and something I will never forget.

I just figured that they were not flying on Sunday due to the low cloud cover. I didn't know until this morning that a child had been killed. It is a very tragic thing.
My son lives in Madison, not far from the airport. He said that the plane were actually flying. They had said that the show would go on rain or shine. I don't know if that was for the whole "show", or just the planes flying. Obviously this was just a very unfortunate accident. There was nothing anybody could have done. It happened so fast. I pray for the little boy's family and the little boy that was seriously injured. God bless them all.

I noticed that attitude as well and it bothered me. Our news media was immediately blaming someone for a tragic accident. Insurance would term this as "an act of God" -- something that could not have been predicted or foreseen...if they want to say the event should have been cancelled, I agree with GoFish, we'd never have anything planned because weather here in Alabama is extremely unpredictable -- even with all of the technology. There was no "line of storms" moving through or anything to have indicated this would happen...those type of storms literally pop up and explode in the blink of an eye...

It's sad that our news media was so slanted toward that insted of praising the quick and accurate response by the First Responders and praising the local hospitals with their efficient "plan" that they practiced and were then able to put into action...there were many heros that day and I think they should have been more sympathetic to those that were injured and more supportive to the others...

I agree. Although, it is human nature to try to blame someone for a tragedy. I believe it was a horrible accident that could not have been avoided due to mother nature. The tent company followed their procedures for securing the tents and adhered to airport guidelines. They were even inspected by the president of the rental company. I too noticed how the news media focused on trying to lay blame. I am just praying for the Miller family and the families of the injured.
Fire -- thanks for the correct term. I just know that when a tree from my property landed on my neighbor's car -- the insurance called it an act of God and wouldn't cover the damage...the judge in court even agreed with the insurance company that this was a freak accident and couldn't have been avoided...

Macey -- I agree...wholeheartedly...it is said, but sometimes these things just happen and there was no way to avoid it...
