Agreed, a sorry lot they are. To bad that any church can use the word Baptist and I hope that it is known they are not affiliated with other Baptist Churches.
I do not think such a bunch of trash should cause us to consider changing the first amendment, at the same time I see a lot of what they do as going past freedom of speech and going into harassment. I think the way to fight this is to protest their protests and document everything they do, everytime they step outside what is protected by the 1st amendment charges should be filed and civil action taken.
These pieces of $#!+ make money on almost every protest by provoking people and getting them on video harassing them back and then of course suing. I say give them a dose of their own medicine.
Yes, of course that is my knee-jerk reaction, but there has to be a crack somewhere that the case could be argued before the courts..You would think that the Baptist Association, if indeed, they belong to one, should have some sort of policing action over their member churches?

No, of course not. What clamps them also clamps you. Counter protests are the key. Those have been quite successful recently. When you get bored check out some of the Youtube vids.

I agree with the counter protest idea. I haven't seen any of the YouTube videos, but would think if a large group of people shouted the church members down every time they tried to gather on their own turf at church, they'd at least get a taste of their own medicine.

I would shout at them as they get out of their cars and file into church, then I'd blow my horn or blast Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails from my speakers and aggravate the he!! out of them (pun intended).
I don't feel that these members of the hate group (cause its not a church, at least one that God would approve of) should be protected under the first amendment because to me they are more yelling "fire" in a crowded building then expressing themselves under the first amendment as I feel that they are trying to envoke violence and turmoil where ever they protest.

I am not a christian but I know that these people are not christians, they are a hate group. If I had a god to pray too, my prayer would be for someone to put a bullet in them and send them to hell.

They are not a member of any Baptist Association. They are independent, as I had said earlier anyone can form a group and use the word baptist to describe it, there is nothing any of the Baptist Association's can do about it.
The problem is that there is no organized effort to document what they are doing, a lot of what they do is outside of protected free speech and is clearly harassment however the people on the receiving end are not getting audio and video of what is happening to them but the Westboro folks are documenting everything. If someone tries to sue or file charges, Westboro has documentation they can edit to their liking but the people they are provoking have nothing to show for proof. Westboro tries to provoke people and document their reactions so that they can sue and make money. This is not a "pass a law" issue. It is an issue of people need to band together and fight back.
People have fought back. The father of the marine that took them to court and won just had his decision reversed by a holier than thou judge at the appellate level. I hope the Supreme court hears it and finally puts an end to this mess. Or at least their practices.
If anyone is interested in helping Matthew Snyder's dad fight the Westboro Baptist Church then below is the link. This man is being dragged through the mud by this hate group and is incurring legal fees in his fight. He is just a middle class man receiving support from good people like us and 2 veteran attorneys working pro bono to legally put an end to this hatred and picketing at our armed service members' funerals.

Also too, no one talks about homosexuality more than Rev Phelps of Westboro Baptist Church, he talks about homos more than homos talk about themselves. Why is this man and his followers so obsessed with homosexuality, I have no clue unless he is just a big old closet case himself.

I don’t think any clamps on the first amendment are necessary. These clowns are harassing private individuals at a private function. That is not a protected activity. I am hoping the appellate judge is only forcing this to the Supreme Court in order to get it banned once and for all. If not, then he needs to be removed for incompetence.
