W-HAIL the rescuer.
A beluga whale saved a drowning diver by hoisting her to the surface, carrying her leg in its mouth.
Terrified Yang Yun thought she was going to die when her legs were paralysed by crippling cramps in arctic temperatures.
She had been taking part in a free diving contest WITHOUT any breathing equipment.
Competitors had to sink to the bottom of an aquarium's 20ft arctic pool and stay there for as long as possible amid the beluga whales at Polar Land in Harbin, north east China.
But when Yun, 26, tried to head to the surface she struggled to move her legs.
Lucky Yun said: "I began to choke and sank even lower and I thought that was it for me - I was dead. Until I felt this incredible force under me driving me to the surface."
Beluga whale Mila had spotted her difficulties and using her sensitive dolphin-like nose guided Yun safely to the surface.
An organiser said: "Mila noticed the problem before we did.
"We suddenly saw the girl being pushed to the top of the pool with her leg in Mila's mouth.
"She's a sensitive animal who works closely with humans and I think this girl owes her, her life."

Glad everyone liked it as much as I did.
Critters never ask who what when where or why. They just act.

Bumble, you scuba? Me and hubby do too, or did, before youngans came along. All of our equipment has dry rotted. LOL.
Such a wonderful feeling.

LMM, i knew i liked you! hahahaha!
no person who dives can be that mean! hahahah!
would it surprise you to know i used to teach scuba in my younger days. hahahahaha!

save that old gear. i bet i can fix it. (replace seals and hoses and all that.)
i have wanted to plan a big dive trip. we use to take twenty or more back "in the day". we should all take that cheap cruise out of mobile and hit Cozumel once. Cozumel has the most beautiful water. we went a couple of years ago and visibility was over 200'. i can name about 3 other forum members that would LOVE to go.
I can swim but I've never had any diving training. Hmmmm...I wonder if there is someone on the forum that has a pool and can teach diving lessons...Hmmmm Big Grin Seriously, that sounds like it would be an awesome trip. Just don't plan it for October of any year. Geddon is guaranteed to be overseas for at least 30+ days.
Hubby had training when we married and he got me into it.

Scariest thing ever happened was in the Tennessee river. We would 'walking' along the bottom and came over a little rise. I came face to face with a catfish about 5 feet long and had a head the size of a basketball. I freaked. He just turned away and swam in the other direction.
LOL.

LMM, that reminds me of the class when you teach about shark attack survival.

to survive a shark attack, follow these simple instructions:

you get back to back with your buddy and get your knives out. when the shark is about to attack, you turn, cut your buddy and swim like hell! hahahahahaha! Big Grin

If I ever learn to scuba, then remind me never to go with Bumble! Eeker My boys already know that when they go camping in the Smokeys, if they come upon an angry bear, they just have to run faster than their daddy. Big Grin

I will make sure none of you drown while I work on my tan. I tried it in Mexico. I realized pretty quick I'm more of a float, tan person.

LMM, thanks for sharing about the whale. That's awesome! So much for animals/fish being dumb!

BC, I will help with the beach patrol. I've never been scuba diving, but did snorkling on a cruise I took a few years ago. It was fun, but I threw my back out getting back on the boat. I'll stay on the beach from now on. Smiler
