Recently, I began having some health concerns that resulted in me being placed on a 1,600 calorie per day diabetic diet. I admit that I had been not taking care of myself, as I know that I could and should.

During the past two weeks, except to get a beverage, (I have a weakness for Sonic Happy Hour), I have only eaten from a fast food establishment 1 time, Burger King where I only got a Whopper Jr. and visited a Cracker Barrel where I selected items from their low carb choices.

The results so far, have been a total of 9 pounds loss, and the lower of my blood sugar levels by an average of 50 points. I am also not longer having the symptoms, that I was experiencing, my blood pressure has dropped, allow me to reduce some of my medications with my doctor’s approval.

Because of a change in our families scheduled, there are several evenings, where I’m the only person that I have to plan and cook for. This too has made a different on how and what I buy when shopping for groceries. I now read labels religiously. In doing so, I have discovered that some of the items promoted as “heart-healthy” are not as good as other selections.

One of the best investments that I have made was the purchase of a Redi-Set-Go grill, as seen advertised on TV. I purchased mine at the Target in Florence, and not on TV. Using it, has allowed me to closely monitor portion control and expand my menu options, especially with breakfast items. A good example would be the breakfast omelets, using the meat and vegetables from the kabobs, which were left over.

This new adventure has not been easy. The temptations are everywhere. But it takes a lot of planning and commitment to make it work. If I can do it, so can anyone else.

Now my question to you is, are you up to the challenge. Do we start our own Shoals Biggest Looser Challenge?

Me too, but mush easier said than done. Frowner

One good and quick start is to just give up White Bread, Rice, Potatoes, White Sugar and Soft Drinks. You will lose weight easily and your B/P will decline. Just do it, it works.
