I was the same way until my children introduced me to country. You are missing out.

How could you not like these songs?

I'm betting you listened to John Denver in your day. These take just one more step.

Is this Conway Twitty covering Elvis, or did Elvis cover Conway? I'm going to have to find this for my iPod. thanks.

Your welcome .

"It's Only Make Believe" is the name of a song written by Jack Nance and Conway Twitty. Twitty released it as a single in 1958 (see 1958 in music.) The single performed well, topping both U.S. and British national charts, and to date remains Twitty's only number-one single on the pop charts of either country.

Elvis Presley never recorded the song despite popular belief. When the song first began getting airplay in 1958, many listeners mistook Twitty's voice for that of Presley's. Although it's been rumored for years that Presley recorded it, a commercial or non commercial recording has yet to surface proving so.

Ronnie McDowell, who started out as an Elvis impersonator (which is probably where the confusion is coming from), covered the song about, what, 15-20 years ago? I remember that Conway was on this version, as well, similar to when Buck Owens sang on Dwight Yoakam's cover of Buck's "Streets of Bakersfield."

Thx, that is excellent, and a s long as we're going in that there direction, you and everyone else needs to hear these guys. Unfortunately, Kirk died and now there are three.

Split Lip Rayfield.

The bass is the gas tank from a 65 Ford modified for a stand up!

Good stuff, I've never heard of them, thanks! I checked their tour dates, nothing around here unfortunately.

I'm sure you've heard of these guys. This is an amazing song.

Old Crow Medicine Show - Soul Rebel
Just happened to come across this one. I first heard it at Uncle Dave Macon days, a bluegrass festival here in the 'Boro. Lots of old guys in impromptu groups playing old traditional bluegrass. One group played "The Cuckoo" and it was awesome.

I came across this video and it reminded me of that moment. If you like old Appalachian style folk music played by guys who grew up with it, Uncle Dave Macon days is worth the trip.

This is simply the best rec on here so far.

The Blues are the truth.

The Blues on a banjo is even better.

The dog laying his down sealed the deal.

I'll own this music soon if possible.

Its that sweet.

For some reason he reminds me of "Pig Meat Johnson" from Looziana, back in the 20s I think.

*edit*

Here's what I found. Only one CD, I ordered it. I plan on writing Scott to see about the others.
