I ALWAYS get the mashed potatoes. They are REALLY GREAT! The pecan crusted tilapia is my usual unless I decide to pig out on the salad bar (with a side of mashed potatoes, of course).

The best thing about it is that there is such a wide variety of dishes that there is something for everyone in your party, including the usually hard to please.

201 North Seminary Street, Florence, AL 35630, Located in Downtown Florence, 256-766-5072, Great steaks and so much more are featured at this restaurant. Menu items include grilled shrimp, filet mignon, loaded baked potato skins, buffalo wings, fettuccini, chicken parmesan, pecan crusted tilapia, salads, and burgers.
guess my experience has been different. had the absolute worst excuse for a prime rib I've ever seen. One other time we left after sitting at the table for over 15 minutes w/o so much as a "howdy do". That was on a week night and not very crowded.
But I did have good food and service about a month ago at lunchtime.

I went once about a year ago and had a similar experience. The service was poor, the chicken breast was dry, and the baked potato was cold. Haven't been back and don't plan on it.

If you had asked for the manager & told him/her the problem, they would have made it right, and also would have gotten another waiter for you. They can't fix what they don't know about. Wink
I love Legends. I had a problem with my food one time in all the times we've gone there & the manager fixed it right away & on top of that, didn't charge us for our food. She went far above her duty to us.
I've always had a good experience at Legends. I really like their salad bar. The broccoli salad on the bar is wonderful!

Jen's Cafe is a great sandwich shop. I think they also have home style plates. Friday is Free Cake Friday - you can have a piece of cake for free (unless they have changed recently.)

Another reason I like Jen's Cafe is the free Thanksgiving dinner they do every year. Anyone who wants to can walk in and get a free meal - turkey/dressing & all the fixings. I've never been there on Thanksgiving, but I'm sure it's great!

Jen's Cafe, where everything comes with its own cigarette smokey flavor.
Folks..
Look at it from the owners and managers point of view...
They want you to enjoy your meal...they can not keep a job or the place open on a one time visit...
If the meal is bad or the service sucks...you are not doing them a favor by not telling them...be honest...they want you to come back..give them the opportunity to save their business...
I know the food business, just like you know the back of your hand...every owner and manager wants the best for you...
You deserve the best they can offer...push them to that line...don't settle for average or below average food..
I've been four times. The first time we were sat in the back and our server was terrible. He made many mistakes. I know he wasn't new, either. Then the manager came to a group near us and asked them to move to accommodate a larger party. This was RUDE, you should never ask anyone to move, especially since these people were at the salad portion of their meal. I ordered a steak and it was not cooked to order. The sides weren't good, either. The spinach dip was entirely too salty and cold by the time they brought it out. We did complain to the management, but this was the same guy who asked a party to move to make room for a bigger party. We didn't get much resolution. The dip was comped. Nice.

The next time I took my dad because he wanted a steak and I thought this place couldn't possibly suck that bad two times in a row. I was wrong. The service from a different person was just as bad. Dad's steak was bad and I ordered a pasta. I'd rather eat raw pasta noodles than that dish again. Complained yet again. Got my pasta comped since I only ate two bites.

Third and fourth times I went for business lunches so I had no choice. I had dumplings one time. Tasteless and was more like chicken noodle soup. The service was better, but still not what I would hope for. The last time I went was the final straw. I'm sure you're tired of my B*tch*ng by now, but it was just terrible. I've never had one good meal there or good service.

The salad bar I guess is ok but I don't eat from buffets are bars so I don't have first hand experience. It at least looked clean and well-stocked.

I won't go back, no matter who suggests we eat there. I will say no every time.
To me they do a great job with their baked potatoes, many don't but they do. Additionally their salad bar is a pretty good and stocked bar. Last I think their best entree and selection is their Prime Rib, if you get it medium temperature or at least not well done which dries it out. The only bad thing about the prime rib is that their price difference between the 8 and 12 ounce is quite a bit and for the size they are a bit high on the price but still one of the better places I've tried Prime Rib. The best Prime Rib sources are from Julian's Restaurant in Daytona Beach, FL (too far and expensive to drive but if you are there gotta try it) and Longhorn Steakhouse. Closest Longhorn is still in Huntsville but hopefully one day ,,,, hopefully the Shoals will see a Longhorn location. Longhorn is based out of Atlanta and in an Atlanta Access Restaurant poll for best steakhouses Longhorn (a chain) was the only Chain type restaurant that was listed among other premium Atlanta Steakhouses such as Chops, Ruth's Chris (which is also in Huntsville) and all the others will cost you two to three times what a meal at Longhorn will cost.

I still think, overall, the best all round restaurant in the Shoals has to be Georges and Dales is not far behind if not 1B.
My hubby & Kids used to think that I was nuts because I always ordered chopped steak @ Georges. OMG it is ground filet Migon & sirloin, Get a side of grilled onions, UMMMMM all for $13.95. Hubby finally tried and that's what he gets now. We love it... And don't even get me started on their Blue Cheese Dressing!

I see that side of it, but the owner needs to have a more proactive approach than waiting on complaints. I don't want to be seen as a cheapskate looking for a comp.
I went there once, piss poor service and the steak was flavorless and seemed to have been fried.
I haven't gone back, but if I am in the Shoals, I generally cook my own steaks.
