Congress questions Halliburton's moveAs expected, Halliburton's announcement Sunday that it'll establish a corporate headquarters in Dubai and move its CEO there sparked some criticism in Congress yesterday from legislators who claim the company is making the change so it can increase business with Iran and take tax benefits in the U.S. "I think Congress ought to hold hearings to try to determine why one of this country's major defense contractors has decided to move its principal offices offshore," Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.) said. "What's behind it?"

Halliburton probably moved their HQ to Dubai because their is no corporate tax in Dubai, just the same situation in a couple of small Caribbean nations. Also, its closer to some customers. If we chose to continue to run off companies, more fault to US.

Chop,

A company making money in South Africa or any other company is not our expense. Perhaps, you would prefer all the foreign companies that move their facilities to the US to move out. Why does the left wish to kick start another depression. It took both parties and a pig ignorant financial system working together to make the last one happen.

You failed to mention that Halliburton is already doing business in Iran, IN VIOLATION OF THE US SANCTIONS ON THAT COUNTRY. They have been circumventing US law for decades with a subsidiary in the Caribbean staffed by two people. Pelosi is in hot water for talking to Syrian Government officials, and Halliburton is doing business with Iran. Some folks are really unaware of reality.

"Kick start another depression"? When are the rigt wing going to stop being apolgists for greedy corporations and start being concerned for the average person? As far as the average American is concerned we are already in another depression. We struggle harder and harder just to keep up and we are still falling behind. Our stahdard of living continues to decline. Productivity is up, profits are up and the only ones benefiting are corporate elite's.

This is the same reasoning that got us into this mess in the first place. We find the more "give backs" of benefits the workers give and the more cuts we make in business taxes, the more environmental laws we bend, the more they want. It's been called "a race to the bottom." Who will work for the least and give them the most.

The whole society really loses as workers get less wages and lower standards of living while governments have to increase our taxes to make up for the shortfall while corporations pollute and put more strain on the local infrastucture. The average Amercian is heading full speed straight down into anthoer depression.

After the huge profits they made off US soldiers blood Haliburton now moves off shore so they can avoid paying taxes. How grateful and patriotic.

The problem is a world wide problem. Corporations are becoming so big and powerful they are a world unto themselves and care little for average people. Some of the largest corporations have more then the economies of small 3rd world nations.

We are fodder to grease their wheels and fight their wars while governments take away our rights. This needs to be addressed world wide by legislation by governments that represent the people and international unions.

The government of Iran is not a "terrorist nation."
