A little insight into what makes a cop, and why not everybody is capable of being one...

quote:
What price do we pay when one is sacrificed?

We don't pay. We get fleeced, robbed of a human being who decided to make his life's work protecting each one of us.

The fact that Officer Thor Soderberg, who was killed with his own weapon Wednesday during an apparent robbery outside a South Side police facility, died a hero is little consolation to his family and friends.

Our hero: The life of a cop

And a letter from a street cop in response...

quote:
We do what we did yesterday and today and will do tomorrow even in the light of another officer being murdered. We put on the uniform, go to roll call and into the street to serve and protect. We will think of Soderberg and other officers who have passed on but won't lose our focus because we still have to serve and protect.

What did the first person hope to gain with that statement? Would they prefer to have no police protection? Does this person know people with no family or friends available to fill all police officer positions? That makes no sense.

I am thankful for those who know the risk but do the job anyway. Life for myself & my family and friends would be very difficult without them.

You need to get over yourself already. You look rather foolish.

Sympathy is something that is given when deserved, not something to request.

I don't see any request for sympathy anywhere in either topic.

As usual, you're wrong again. You're so good at being wrong...you must get paid to do it Wink
A response in the "reply" section says it best...

"Jon Burge and his accomplices were also cops. So were the drunk driving cops who killed innocent civilians. So are the cops who beat innocent civilians. So are the cops who harass and arrest people because of their race, color, nationality or gender. Cops take bribes and work with criminals including drug dealers and organized criminals. All of the cops who do these things along with those who ignore it are not public servants.

Not all cops are good or qualified or fair or law abiding. Nor are they all bad unqualified or law breakers. They are all too human. The bad cops are more of a threat to our justice system than are the criminals. People with positions of trust and power over vulnerable human beings-cops, firemen, doctors, lawyers or clergy-have a much higher obligation to be legal just and fair.

This cop was apparently a very good human being along with being great cop as well.

If any cop can not deal with their role then they need to go into a different profession. Doctors will see sick people. Firemen will see fires. Cops will see criminals. If the cops think they have it bad then they should remember the scared civilians and the the innocent victims."

Around 700,000 cops deal with not only "their roll", but everything that goes with it each and every day.

Which you can't stand. Wink
Your suspecting capabilities are badly wrong as well, as far as you suspicions about my duty time.

But I do get paid to monitor internet traffic and sites. My boss knows I do, and encourages it. In fact, my boss directed me today to investigate setting up more than one social networking sites online...you know, like facebook and the T/D forum...

Whats your point? I have never disapproved of GOOD cops doing their jobs. When one lies like you just did about surfing the net on paid time, then makes a subtle threat...I classify them as bad. If you will lie that easily here, just think what you would do to a citizen on the street you didn't like.

What threat?

Whether you want to believe it or not, (don't really matter to me whether you do or don't Wink ) a lot of my job involves internet usage...including monitoring internet websites, blogs, forums and social messaging boards.

Being classified as "bad" by you doesn't bother me (or anyone else that's ever read one of your posts) Big Grin

Your "I can stand all on my own" statement proves your foolhardy arrogance. Wink

WH strikes once again. In the light of recent felonious assaults on law enforcement, is it too much to ask to let the people who actually appreciate police read without your hate filled banter? I know a thousand people like you and none of you surprise me. Get over yourself. Like I said before. If you think you can do this job better fill out an application. I will write you a recommendation letter. It will read "Hire this man. He knows everything."

I love my job. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me. We have had numerous police officers shot in the line of duty recently. All I'm asking for is some respect from you to those who sacrificed more than you will ever know. I never mentioned MYSELF because I don't care what you think of me. But the families and officers who are dealing with these tragic situations have earned the right not to hear your crap. Just once will you give it a rest?

Nobody's asked anybody for sympathy. Show me where anyone has, which you can't do.

And cops have just as much right to post on internet forums as anyone else in the world.

So get over yourself and your little petty one crybaby anti-cop crusade.
Sassy?? I am pro police and always will be. I believe the "bad" ones are dealt with and the good ones continue to do a good job. I do have one question though. You can't be an officer from around the Shoals. Where are you from? I don't want specifics just a general area. The reason I ask is that no agency around here has a cyber crimes unit, so you must be from a bigger city. I don't mean this to be ugly, just curious.

I haven't seen any cop on here or the ones I know in person that supports bad cops. But, I have seen you bash all cops good and bad.

You might want to discuss that with the victims of the recent numerous home invasions.
