WASHINGTON — When it comes to war, killing the enemy is an accepted fact. Even amid the sensation of the WikiLeaks.org revelations, that stark reality lies at the core of new charges that some American military commando operations may have amounted to war crimes.

Among the thousands of pages of classified U.S. documents released Sunday by the whistle-blower website are nearly 200 incidents that involve Task Force 373, an elite military special operations unit tasked with hunting down and killing enemy combatants in Afghanistan.

Denouncing suggestions that U.S. troops are engaged in war crimes in Afghanistan, military officials and even war crimes experts said Monday that enemy hit lists, while ugly and uncomfortable, are an enduring and sometimes unavoidable staple of war

Well, duh-- is killing the enemy not the purpose of war anyway? Of course innocent people will be killed. Remember the twin towers? How many innocent people lost their lives there? Too many bleeding hearts in the country now. We need to finish this mess and get the troops home! If that is posssible.

Is there a "war" somewhere? I'm aware of a couple of 'illegal invasions', but I didn't realize there was a "war".

As should have been learned in Viet Nam...there is no "finishing" this. We should leave those heathens alone. Thats their part of the world, this is ours.

Thinking that we can 'defeat' this enemy is delusional.

Illegal? What law was broken? As far as Afghanistan goes, the Northern Alliance asked us to come help when we offered.

Also, the Vietnam war is over, so it did get finished. In fact, the U.S. and North Vietnam signed a peace treaty in 1973 ending U.S. involvement in the war.

Let me see if I got this straight.

Viet Nam did not attack America on American soil.. Al Qaeda did. And some of you see a comparison. Am I right so far?

How do we know AQ did? They said so. Who is their leader? OBL. How do we know that? He says so. Where was/is his base of operations? Afghanistan. How do we know? He says so. He even sends us greeting

So y’all think invading Afghanistan and going after OBL was illegal, huh? What are you going to when another terrorist act is perpetrated on American soil and you know who did it and you know where they are? Are you just going to sit on your hands because of some other unrelated war?

Just how many times are you willing to do that?

Someone brutally murders your family. You know who the killers are and they live in a tough neighborhood. What are you going to do about it? You think for one minute WH is going to help you? In fact no one has to help you, but those that do, the ones in uniform, every one of them though they don’t know you personally is a volunteer willing to sacrifice their lives to bring justice to you. And midway through the search for your families killers, you want to call it quits. Yeah, that supporting the troops alright.

Oh but wait...I made a mistake. It’s wasn’t your family that was murdered. It was your neighbors. Well then, why should you care. WH says you shouldn’t get involved and you agree with him knowing that’s the cowards way out? Good grief! Thank God you don’t live in my neighborhood.

I fully expect WH to give me the AQ p.o.v. since that is where his loyalties lie, but how about the rest of you? Keep after the murderers or let ‘em go?

After nine years and several hundred billion dollars, if the entire US military organization cannot find and destroy ONE MAN, then its time to quit.
They cannot, because the military is being hamstrung by congress and the whiny little bimbos like whats-er-name sheehan.

i'd like to pretend i knew why it was more important to them to keep the people in other countries happy than it is to keep americans safe, but it just doesn't make any sense.

"oh.. oh but we can't go there and look for him, cause it would make these people over here mad at us."

Let em get mad. if the government hadn't crippled our fighting force, this whole thing would have been over years ago.

You cut em loose. they burn it to the ground, then you help them build it all back and 40 years later you buy their cars. that's how it's done. ask germany and japan.

like Ralphie May says, we need to just Suge Knight the whole region. Nuke em till they glow to make the snipers jobs easier.
turn the whole place into a black-glass covered parking lot and call it AfghanIranIraqIpakIstan.
(that's better said out loud than just read. written down it looks kinda stupid)

And - We cannot just walk away.
if we pack up and leave, they have all the time in the world to regroup, rearm, rest up and plan.
right now, even tho there are no 'major engagements' they are in a full defensive position. thye aren't necessarily ' on the run' but they are in full 'duck and hide' mode, except for a few instances where one dipwad blows himself to Allah to wipe out the evil band of 4th graders.

if we pull out, they have time to get it back together and go back on the offensive.

My thought is simply, if they are dead, they can't hurt us.

Kill 'em All... Let Allah sort 'em out.

The comparison I see is neither Nam or Afghanistan were/is winnable.

Bin Laden was a major player years ago. He hides and watches now from Pakistan BTW...Pakistan is our ally. Al Qaeda was in control of the Afghanistan govt at the time of the WTC attack. I do feel the U.S. had a 'right' to go after them. We did...what wasn't killed was run out. We should have left at that point. After we removed Al Qeada from power, our right to be there was over.

Nope...I think staying there after Al Qeada was defeated is illegal.

The sad part about fighting this kind of enemy is that they have lived like this for their entire lives. They think giving their life for their cause will get them into heaven. Its hard to fight someone who doesn't care to be killed. About all that is going on there now is insurgents playing games and killing our young men and women.

Tell me budsfarm...how are you going to kill that which you cannot see?
