Kinda my views.

It serves a great place for Bill to write his mini-sermons tho, away from News and Politics and Misc.

After all, it's HIS forum.

My pet peeve is mixing religious dogma taking over politics.

Ditto that. I grew up deep inside religion and it's always been a hateful, spiteful and I'm holier-than-you and if you disagree with me you are going to hell mentality. Religion honestly makes me nauseated but I hate to limit myself and it's a free country so I add my 7 cents whenever I see something of interest. Religion is a dirty word to me and many people I know feel the same way. This forum is a perfect example of why this is true for so many. It never changes either.

I like your reply better though RP. It's simple and to the point.

Sorry Bill, couldn't resist.

Hi Skippy,

Not a problem, my Friend.  They do say that imitation is the highest form of flattery.  So, thank you.

We can agree on a lot of things -- as long as it is not the Mormon gods, or the Mormon Jesus Christ -- or any of the Mormon theology and doctrines.  Other than that -- we are good.  And, I have no doubt that if you and I were to meet in person, we could be good friends -- as long as we stay away from those subjects.

I am involved in a Wednesday Bible study in the home of a family who are strong Calvinists.  My pastor and I were talking about this today -- and, I told him that we just stay away from any discussions of Calvinism.  There is much more in the Bible to talk about which is not Calvinism.   And, I am sure that if you and I had a Bible study and stayed away from Mormonism, we would have a lot of fun.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

I don't know why anyone would want to be your friend. You're are one of those that makes people turn & go the other way when they see you coming.

I agree with alot of what you said. I grew up in church but it didn't become a hateful, spiteful, & holier-than-you atmosphere until later in life. I was always happy in a Baptist church & I never questioned God. My Daddy told me all I had to do was believe in & love Jesus, try to follow the commandments, help others when/if I could & not to worry about the rest because it would all become clear in the by & by. And that's what I did.

I look back now & all my problems started in a Pentecostal type church. I was never completely happy in any of them but thought I was supposed to go where my husband said we should go. Most of the time I was miserable, except for a few friends I met along the way.

It's not so much Religion that makes me nauseous but going to church does. I haven't been in church for a very long time & have no desire to. I've seen more people like Bill Gray in church than I ever want to see again.

No one can prove to me that God is real & no one can prove that I came from monkey's and/or a big bang. I'm sort of in limbo but I do know that I never want to attend another church again.

Hi Chick,

You Daddy is a very wise man.  What he told you is right on -- and extremely good advise.  Have you ever considered going back to that Baptist church where he took you?  If it has/had members of his quality -- I would say it is a Christ-centered, Bible-teaching church.    And, it might be a good place for you to reconnect with your faith.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

I've met a few of these "holier than thou" types along the way, there might even be one or two at the Church I attend now but I've been to some other Churches where some of the leaders where that way and there was no shortage of people in the congregation who followed along. It really makes me sad when others in the Church act in a hypocritical manner as it does drive a lot of people away from the Church and it reflects poorly on the rest of us. I can assure anyone that most Christians really are decent people who do try hard to put God first and do the right thing, there are a lot of congregations in the Shoals area both large and small and the beliefs, attitudes, and actions of these congregations are about as diverse as it gets. I would certainly recommend to anyone that they pursue finding a Church home where they are happy and actually like the people.

My Daddy died several years ago but yes, he was a very wise man. I sometimes wish he were here to counsel me & answer my questions. The church I was raised in up until about age 10 is about 40 miles away. We moved & the church we attended after that is about 2 miles down the road.

There's a First Assembly of God in Muscle Shoals that I attended a few times with my husband. Not one woman in that church spoke to me, not even the Pastor's wife. I would smile at them when walking in & they might smile back or might not, but that's as far as it went. My husband liked it there but men are much friendlier than women & not as snooty.

I went with him for about 4 weeks & finally said no more. My husband kept going & I stayed at home.

It seems like most churches have a private little circle of women & they don't speak/associate with anyone outside that circle.

The repeated mantra of theocrats who insist that "there is nothing in the Constitution about separation of church and state."

It IS there, and those who do not see it are either blind or stupid.  The matter has been discussed repeatedly and reasons amply supporting separation of church and state have been provided time and time again, but the die-hard true-believer sheeple will not even try to rebut the information provided; they simply repeat their ignorant assertions.

These nitwit extremist wing nuts actually seem to believe that their interpretation trumps that of the U.S. Supreme Court.  It used to drive me up the wall, but I have come to understand that there is no curing an egg-sucking mule and no way to renovate unyielding, belligerent dunderheads!

I feel pretty much the same way and maybe I should have said "organized religion". I have no problem with people believing in a god but organized religion is something I never want to be a part of again. Although my church experiences were all mostly negative, I'm sure not all churches are this way but still... None for me. I've had enough of the backstabbing, bickering and hateful, spiteful attitudes to last a lifetime.

To me, one's spirituality is a highly person thing. You don't have to attend a church to be spiritual or believe in a god.

As for there being a god, I have no idea. It's anybody's guess.

So ya know what works for me?

Forget about the thumpers and their holier-than-thou'ness...

Forget about atheists and reason......Chuck all the outside influences...

Just live yer life the best way ya know how to.

All you really can do is 'the next right thing.'

T'aint hard. Some of us have been doing things that way without a divine instruction manual or divine instruction manual police to enforce the divine instructions-all our lives and guess what?

The results we get are exactly the same as the ones the believers get-except we aren't saddled with all of that pesky guilt and dogma.

Life isn't all that complicated.  People complicate it.

Does it really matter where ya came from? You're here anyway. Someday ya won't be anymore.

I dunno bout you, but I wouldn't wanna waste too much of my life worrying about it.

What's gonna happen will happen whether ya actually care about it or not.

Life is short- Don't take any BS and live it while ya got it.
